If this is true, I am disappointed to here it. Personally, I don't think they will franchise Samuel again next year because of the expense, but I would have liked for them to stick to their guns on principle. As history has shown us, you cave to one guy and the next guy is going to want/expect/demand the same thing.

If the Patriots made any concession beyond the standard franchise tag, I'll be disappointed. Happy that Asante is back, but the front office shouldn't have budged an inch (if they did).

If the Pats were going to concede this to Asante, why the hell couldn't

they do this a month ago and get him to training camp in time?

If you dont believe they will anyway then whats the difference that they made him happy after he signed.

Probably because they weren't so confident with the secondary personnel that they already had.
