For reference, here is the Reiss roster from a couple of days ago. Well, almost! I cut Lua. I'm hoping that Dave Thomas is #53. My personal roster replaces Gaffney with Caldwell.

Thonas isn't ready to play yet. My guess is that he won't ready for at least a couple of weeks. Thomas is a longshot. So I would keep both.
If Thomas doesn't come back, there are others in my book considerably ahead of Lua, who might not even make the Practice Squad. Caldwell is th obvious addition.

While I see what your saying, from the Pats perspective, if Thomas weren't ready now or in the near future why not continue with the PUP until the 6th week? I am saying that if he weren't ready now, don't you think the Pats would have PUPed him like the 3 others today and made sure that he was really healed. Rivers has shown that he is at least adequate until Thomas' return. He must be closer than we all think.
There isn't any room. You have Samuel, Hobbs, Meriweather, Gay, Sanders, Harrison, and Wilson. That's 7 DBs. Add in 2-3 special teamers -- Mitchell, Andrews, Wesley, and you're filled out.
I like your work as usual, but here is where I differ.
One Caldwell DEFINITELY makes this team. Barring a trade, I think the Pats keep 6 WRs. You are also a DB short. I have said on many occassions, with so many guys who can play in this league already, they are NOT going to waste a roster position on a 3rd QB. So Vinny goes on speed dial, and Rogers goes to the practise squad. With those 2 spots you add Caldwell to the WRs, and James to the secondary.
With Lua AND Rogers both on the PS, you can go into this season on short of the ideal number of LBs Also because so many of the guys can play both inside AND outside, it adds to the depth.

Why would you take Caldwell instead of Gaffney? I don't want to revisit that thread but it seems team wise Caldwell would have to beat out Washington and Gaffney is probably the #2 receiver at least until Moss gets uncranked.
