Default OT: 59-year old returns playing college ball

Sorry if this was posted, but thought it was cool. This guy, 59 years old, was kicked off his college team 37 years ago for fighting, and missed his senior year. He's regretted it ever since and so he's making a comeback and has made the team. Makes me feel pretty good at 51.

Nice story.

But I think the Pats should pass on this guy.

Have you seen who NE has on the bench at CB?

From the article.....

"I think it was Carl Yastrzemski who used to say, 'How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?'"
Yaz retired before most, if not all his teammates were born!!!!!! They probably don't even know who he was....

Reminds me of one of my favorite football storys, as told by Chris Berman on ESPN's SportsCentury show:

"I was interviewing George Halas and I asked him who is the greatest running back you ever saw. And he said, 'That would be Red Grange.' And I asked him if Grange was playing today, how many yards do you think he'd gain. And he said, 'About 750, maybe 800 yards.' And I said, 'Well, 800 yards is just okay.' He sat up in his chair and he said, 'Son, you must remember one thing. Red Grange is 75 years old.'"

The one that's better than the Jets starter?

He's a linebacker.

The scary part is he wouldn't increase the average age of the Patriots first five by that much (including Chad Brown).

33.8 to 38 using this seasons starting ages. Ha ha.

Its really an interesting story for sure.

If you've seen the 1991 football comedy Necessary Roughness which starred Scott Bakula (who played a 30+ year old farmer who finally became a college QB) and Sinbad, that film makes me believe now that a school could probably scrape together a bunch of rag-tag scrubs if they had to!

What puzzled me about Mike Flynt's story is this part: "He earned his degree from Sul Ross by taking his remaining classes elsewhere." Wouldn't that make him ineligible because he already (technically) graduated?

No, (I hate to mention his name) Pay-me-a-ton Manning graduated the summer before his Sr. year at Tenn. but still had his eligibility for one more year of football.
