There is no reason for such animosity with someone who states an opinion with which we all agree. In fact, we SHOULD be celebrating the fact that an UDFA from a year ago is part of our squad and our future.

Thanks, mg. I'm not used to being considered somehow naive on this board, but I guess it's my turn. Quite frankly, I'm pleased that so many others share my view. It's a testament to just how much progress Woods has made - and in such a short time.
He hasn't played a pre-season game. He is still only in his second year. And all he's ever won is an off-season positional work-out award. But I don't care. From everything I've read, he's the first young LB in awhile with really solid potential to start (down the road) and I say his roster spot is secure.
Agreed. It's amazing as well when you realize Woods wasn't a starter in college; yet, the Pats knew enough about him to sign him as an UDFA and the rest is history. Talk about a value pickup!

IIRC, after his sophomore season plenty had him penciled in as a top 10 pick for the following year. It isn't as if he was a complete unknown like Cassel.
That said, I agree that patsox shouldn't necessarily be chastised for his view, but I also agree that he really isn't going out on a limb.
Let's see some fence straddle more that!

Cousins,
I like Woods, but will he continue to develop? Is he just a ST maven? Is he the only new LB we need?
I mentioned this in another thread about the waste of not moving Samuel right now, but I have another positive pickup that would add youth to the LB core and solve the problem of not getting anything back for Samuel. I think it is a losing proposition to get Samuel 10 games in........ New idea. The 'Boys are looking for DB help. Look who they are dangling!
"Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys could trade LB Bobby Carpenter to fill a need at defensive back."
Would you trade for Carpenter, who we know the Pats liked in the first round of last years draft but went for Maroney, for "Get Paid" Samuel? Would is be wise to get Carpenter ready for 08 and beyond? I don't know if Woods is the answer or the youngster from SMU but, it's not just one LB that is graying, it is all of them that are. Let Carpenter learn under Teddy, Vrabel, Seau, Thomas, Colvin, Pees and BB.
I say let Assante go to the Cowboys for Carpenter who seems to be the smart player BB looks for. Maybe the Cowboys throw in a third or a fourth too.
Now we don't have to gamble as far as when the prodigal son 'Sante returns and our LB core gets younger with some first round talent. Merriweather and Hobbs might be a great CB tandem.
Would you Cousins out there do this, or just let Samual go after a few token games this year for maybe a comp pick in 2008? I don't care what anyone says, Samuel IS!!!! a distraction in 07.
If you can grab a first round talent who makes you younger at a spot where you need to target, and LB was not addressed in April, doesn't this deal just fall into BB and SPs' lap? Then Woods and Carpenter and maybe one of the other youngsters are the core of the LB future.
