Anyone hoping we select someone in the supplemental draft?
Just looking for input, hopes, or insights on the supplemental draft today. Even though the reviews for him haven't been the greatest, I'm kind of hoping we roll the dice on Paul Oliver. People say he was only able to shut down Calvin Johnson because he had a good defense around him. Well if he came here he would still have a good defense around him and would have great coaching to learn from. It's not like we'd be drafting him to be our #1 CB either. He'd provide some young potential.
Anyone interested in anyone else? Reiss has a good post on who's available on his blog.

Re: Anyone hoping we select someone in the supplemental draft?
If the Pats select anyone, it will be because they believe that player can make the team and is better than the 53 person currently on the team. Otherwise, I don't see them selecting someone. However, I do beleive that Oliver, Gaither or Patrick would be solid additions.
Re: Anyone hoping we select someone in the supplemental draft?
As I said in the draft forum, if this Boston Herald story is right, Oliver has retained Jason Chayut as his agent.
After what Chayut did with Deion Branch, I doubt that the Patriots would want to deal with him again. Remember, Chayut's biggest complaint about Branch's deal was his rookie contract. I doubt he's someone who's going to be easy to deal with.

I would have liked to seen Oliver go for a 4th, but with Chayet as his agent, no way the Pats take him. No way.
It's funny that way, you have Drew Rosenhaus who most despise, but BB likes him b/c he knows football and is a reasonable man when it comes to negotiating. He just puts on a big act for his clients and the press.

I think it all depends on the player. I mean the Eagles still deal with players represented by Rosenhaus. And Chayut would not ask for something completely absurd for a player who had to be drafted in the supplemental draft. If he plays well for a few years, then maybe Chayut might look for more, but most good agents would.

Chayut and absurd were used in the same sentence throughout much of the Deion Branch negotiations. I imagine Chayut sees himself as an agent who will extract as much money as possible for his rookie clients since he has been so vocal in how they have been used in the past.
Chayut will probably push for a 3 or 4 year deal, which would probably drive a wedge into the proceedings right from the start.

What leverage would an agent have when it comes to a rookie picked in the supplemental draft?
Branch was the number 1 receiver on the club and they already lost Givens. They had just signed Caldwell, the only other reciever with any experience on the roster was Brown. Not to mention that Branch was a SB MVP.
I don't see how you can mention the two in the same sentence and I'm sure the Pats and Chayut wouldn't either. Regardless of what the Pats do today the player's agent will have zero affect on the outcome.
