Well, somebody had to do it. Can anyone make a plausible argument of he makes the team?
In another thread I said they might PUP him, giving him a chance to slip in if some of the other WRs didn't pan out.
I'm revising my opinion. As much as I love Troy Brown as a Patriot player, I just don't see how he makes this team.
Why?
1) Moss, Stallworth, and Welker are virtual locks to make the team.
2) Caldwell and Gaffney are better WRs than Troy Brown at this point in his career. That makes 5 WRs ahead of Brown.
3) Washington would likely be the 6th WR if the Patriots choose to even keep that many on the roster.
4) Even if Washington busts, you still have Chad Jackson. He is about as health as Brown (ie, not very). They will probably heal up at about the same time. Who are you going to keep? Troy Brown for what would definitely be his last season or Chad Jackson, a first round draft pick with lots of potential? The choice is obvious.
Sorry Troy. You deserve to be inducted in the Patriots Hall of Fame, but you don't deserve to make the roster.
Face it guys, Brown is done as a Patriots player.

I don't think Moss is a lock to make the team as well as Washington. I can see Jackson being put on the PUP and Gaffney not making the final cut as well. If Troy wants back he will be back at another wr's expense trust me.
If it comes down to it, I'd rather have CJ on the team than Troy. Sacriledge, I know. There's a bigger payoff for him in having another year to get on the same page as Brady. The line about Troy always seemed to be that his familiarity with Brady made him the most dependable in clutch situations, but I think the AFCCG might have put that to rest.
We love you forever Troy, but I don't see where you fit right now.
Bill Belichick. He's already explained this several times, but apparently you weren't listening. Troy brings things to the table that others in the WR role do not. Including knowledge of the system which CJ can only ever hope to master, rapore with the QB, confidence on ST, and capacity to play DB.
Therefore if healthy, he represents value and Bill expects him to be on the roster barring injury complications. Period.
OK- here isa how it's going to go. Troy will be signed and then PUP'ed. If we should lose a reciever or one is not living up to expectations, he will be activated.
BB already said Troy had a place on this team. I take him at his word.

You know BB would never come out and say Troy is over the hill.
Troy will never play DB again. He was a liability, but we were very desperate that year. BB got plenty of "attaboys" for playing him both ways, just as he did for having Flutie make a successful drop kick and Vinnie extending his career TD streak. You won't see it again even if he makes the team, which he won't.

Again, you know BB is not going to say what he is really thinking. Much like injury report, the less everyone else knows, the better. Besides, he thinks to highly of Troy to be frank about it. The place I would caution you is that the 4th and 5th WRs typically need to play on special teams. None of those 3 guys are considered very good ST players. Browon had always been a great ST player.
Chad Jackson is the 6th WR if there is one on the active roster. There is no way a Gaffney, Caldwell, or Washington would be kept in what is clearly a developmental role where the player would never be active. Most likely CJ starts on PUP and we carry 5 WRs.

Nope - Bill is the master of non-commital when he wants to be. He's not just paying him lip service, I've heard him and seen him answering that question now on a couple of occasions, and he's not dodging. Just because you see things differently than he does, doesn't mean you aren't just "out of touch" with the team, too.
