Default S Robert Griffith "intrigued" by Patriots

Seems like depth at safety is an area that might be worthy of addressing - especially if things are going to get shuffled in the DB with Samuel's potential holdout. While there's been some talk about Donovan Darius on this board, seems to me that Robert Griffith is very much worth a look. He's not coming off of injury like Darius, and while he is older than Rodney, he's been a solid contributor and steady veteran locker room presence in the past.

Most interesting of all is that he's "intrigued" by the Patriots and wants a Ring. Seems like another potential bargain contract for a quality guy. Doesn't sound like he's expecting anything more than a chance to compete and will not demand (or command) a guaranteed contract.

Griffith is hoping to get an offer from a team he believes is a Super Bowl contender, and the Ravens, Bears and Panthers have all piqued his interest. He's also highly intrigued by the Patriots, who are waiting to see how 34-year-old safety Rodney Harrison bounces back from two consecutive injury-marred seasons.

FWIW, one of the first things RAC did in Cleveland was releasing Griffith.

"That's what happened when I signed my deal in '05," Griffith says. "The Fed Ex cost $14.11 or something, and when I got my check, they'd deducted it -- the check was for like $499,985.89, or whatever. That's how they do s--- in Arizona. That's how they run their business!"

I have no idea if we're interested in Griffith but :

- Phil Savage runs the team in Cleveland not Crennel.
- They haven't exactly righted the ship, I'm not sure they're a bastion of great decisions the past couple of years.
- They've drafted several DBs, they're fairly deep there.

LMAO, when I get an extra $200 or so due to overtime I'm pretty damn happy - $499K ? Go ahead and deduct the $14

It's the principle though. He just got a check for $500K so he can afford $14, but can't the organization afford $14 even easier? It's just goodwill.

RAC has no control whatsoever over personnel decisions?

Savage makes the decisions. Crennel gives input. Exactly how much Savage listens to him is probably only known to those in the building.

Looking at it, though, Crennel came from the Patriots who believe in top, young DL and veteran LB . . . the Browns have put almost nothing into DL but drafted lots of young LB just like the Ravens did when Savage was there.

every time any player is cut someone starts a "should the Pats sign him" thread. Being ignorant of other teams I have never heard of the guy and know absolutely nothing about him. I read the SI article and it makes it sound like a no-brainer for NE to bring him aboard.

Does anyone here know anything about the guy, other than "he made the pro bowl years ago" or "I heard he isn't very good anymore." My opinion of the guy is useless/nonexistent, so does anyone have a useful one?

I'm all set with the over-the-hill safeties. I doubt he's better than what we already have on the roster.
