Default Top 10 Bad Weather Games

I haven't seen this posted, please merge if I missed it.

Did anyone else see this on NFL-N? The snow plow game was #7, the Oakland game was #2. #1 was the Ice Bowl.

I love all the pro-Raider, ill-informed commentary. Former safety George Atkinson says, "That is a rule that has never been used before or since...only against the Raiders." Some guy from SF radio says, "I know the rule but the Raiders got screwed."

Tom Curran and Bob Ryan make appearances as well.

Not true at all. I recall seeing a game last season (can't say for sure who was playing) where the tuck rule was invoked. I'm sure it happens every year.

I've seen it called several times since.

It happened in the playoffs. For some reason, Trent Green and the Chiefs seems to stick in my mind, though I also seem to remember it was a question of whether it was an incomplete pass or a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Well, you are correct. There is no rule specifically called the "TUCK RULE." However, there is a rule that talks about what stipulated the end of the passing motion for a QB. Its either letting the ball go, Tucking it back into his body OR re-****ing his arm. They called it the "TUCK" rule because it was the only thing many Raider fans could easily understand.

I think that's why he referred to the ex-player making the comment as ill informed. I called it in my livingroom, despite what the crack CBS commentating team was trying to tell me. Pat's fans should have all known it since it was called against us earlier that season.

I gotta say as bad as some of those game conditions were, that fog bowl game was something else - otherworldly. It was funny that the players kinda enjoyed it - said it became a players game 'cause the coaches couldn't see WTF was transpiring inside the hash marks... Closest thing I could compare it too would be trying to coach those old time players in Field of Dreams - after they disappeared into the corn field!

If I recall correctly, and I'm waaaaay too lazy to double check this, some research was done in the following week and they found that the rule had been used at least 5 times that season. It was even used to benefit the Rams against the Pats in their regular season game. Bottom line, Raiders suck and cry alot. In fact they even cry when their winning.

And what's even crazier is how everyone says it a bad rule and everything, well that rule has been specifically brought before the competition/ rules committee practically every year since 2001, and every year they vote to keep it. So obviously the NFL likes the rule and wants to keep it.

I'm curious about a few games...if any made it to the list of 10.... My thoughts are these might be a bit obscure..being non important games..and hardly worth a mention....
1--Is a Jet/Pats game not sure exactly when(80s), but it was played in heavy rain like monsoons...
2---The opening game 1975 Houston/Patriots again, played in a monsoon rainstorm..one TD on a fumble recovery...teams hardly moved the ball because of the weather....
3---There was a game in KC...I think early 00s or late 90s...what was in the middle of a heavy thunderstorm..rain and wind..and floods in the stands it was so bad..the game was stopped it was so bad with all the lightning around....and with 5" of water in an hour never resumed.

As an aside...I remember the OLD College All Star game...so many years gone..where the SB team would play the allstar college players..(when looking back a rather dumb idea..)Here is a blurb about that last hame....

"The last game took place during a downpour at Soldier Field on July 23, 1976. Despite featuring stars like Chuck Muncie, Mike Pruitt, Lee Roy Selmon and Jackie Slater, the rookies were hopelessly outmatched by the Pittsburgh Steelers, winners of Super Bowl X. Pittsburgh was leading 24-0 late in the third quarter when the weather conditions made play impossible. The officials called for a delay. The players left the field and were replaced by unruly fans, who tore down the goal posts."
As far as bad condirions went, the lightning was all around the area and it's a wonder there wasn't a real tragedy it was so bad.
