He Ban Me

In the NFL (or any of the big three, for that matter), there is NEVER a "last chance". If I am Patriot fan, that's the only thing I worry about. If you think Moss will take the attitude that this is his "last chance", I think you are mistaken.

Also, you guys should welcome these articles, because it can do nothing but help. Randy Moss with a chip on his shoulder does not necessarily bode well for others.

Finally, I see him coming out like a ball of fire. It is a LONG season though. I think he can make it, I don't think he's in TO's "me" league necessarily. However, he also "is what he is". I can't imagine his core personality will change completely, but perhaps just enough. Time will tell.

No, but we have Belichick burying a game ball in the practice field after a horrible Miami loss, putting an anchor in the locker room, showing the Shackelton movie, having Bill Russell address the team, etc etc etc.

Do you hear BB's speech to the team before one of the SBs? (I think Philly, could have been Carolina). That was pure motivation.

I have many disparate thoughts on this situation. Let me get the most annoying one out of the way first:

1) Mike Greenberg is so transparently jealous of Patriots' success that he (and Golic as well) has to sit and pick apart "Belichick's monotone," as he is unable to come up with any other criticism. Yes, he'll rant about the history of Moss dogging it, and that's about all he has. Patriots' followers understand you're not going to get slick production with anything BB has to do related to the media. Patriots' followers also understand that W&Ls have nothing to do with slick media production. Greenie is dying, as he wanted so badly to have something as insignificant as draft day to represent his team's symbolic closing-in on the "hated" Patriots. The guy's a moron.

2) Peter King: I agree with what he wrote in his column in regards to Moss dogging it in the past. I'm hoping that's in the past, as this is the only problem I have with him coming to the Pats. I didn't want this to happen, and after thinking about this for a day, I know why: I take a certain amount of pride in the fact that the Pats were able to build a dynasty without sacrificing their principles. They're now on the clock with Moss, as anyone who's ever worked next to someone who is not doing their job knows, this is a cancer that can't be introduced into a team without a negative impact.

Now, maybe Randy has changed his ways, and maybe he will subordinate his needs for the team's goals. I hope so. He's a great player when he wants to be. This could be exciting, but I have this lingering feeling that a bit of the Patriot luster was lost over the weekend. Let's hope we can get it back.

3) Back to the media: The self-serving scribes in the two Boston papers; yes, those who wrote about the "sanctimonious" Patriot attitude needing to come to an end as a result of the Moss and Meriweather acquisitions, should stick a sock in it! I find it humorous that the very same group who was chiding the management team for its lack of receivers last season is now taking the team to task for its seeming relaxation of its ethics. This is beyond laughable. I have confidence that neither Moss nor Meriweather has the ability to change the basic fundamentals by which the team has stood during Kraft era. What a freakin' joke. Just another example of doing anything to sell paper.

4) My thoughts as a fan? Randy, get ready to strap it up, keep your mouth shut, your eyes open, and stay loose. You're about to play with the best QB and offense you'll ever see in your career. We'd be proud to say that you cemented your place in Canton with your career as a Patriot. Get to work! This will be the most fun you'll have in a long time!

I have serious hopes that Moss' career mirrors Irving Fryars. In NE Inrving was immature and was a source of trouble. He might have been accused of dogging it (anyone remember "Fair Catch Fryar") for the coaches and management, but once he left he matured and got his life together and had a long successful career.

Moss has to do more than give lip service to doing the right thing, but being put in the right environment will help.

Also let remember that Moss' best years he had an older WR (Chris Carter) to mentor him. I think Moss' arrival all but assures Troy Brown coming back to help Moss just like Carter did. Plus Troy can still contribute in all 3 phases of the game.

How anyone could write this garbage without including the words "Andrew Walter" and "worst organization in all of professional sports" anywhere in the story about Moss' history with the Raiders is beyond me. Peter King is a moron.

I read the article and it didn't bother me. My reaction: "That's an easy shot that I don't blame him for taking." King has been generally positive on the Patriots. I'm sure he believes what he wrote, but this was also a chance to "balance" some of the other stuff he's written.

Moot point, though I do agree, BB gets his point across, just fine. He does it by respect, rather than fear. You want him to be happy with your efforts, you don't fear him (although I'm pretty certain nobody looks forward to displeasing coach Belichick.) In short he understands he's coaching grown men, and the best motivational tactic involves judicious use of a motivational tool called the door. As in, showing it to people that don't get with the program (see Gabriel, Doug.)

I was saying though, Moss needs to understand that most of the motivation has to come from within, and from teammates, back and forth, game-ball burials and anchors aside, not from a coach in his face screaming at him to stay with the play. BB's style, to my limited observation and knowledge, doen't involve making you care. It seems like it's more a provision of opportunity to you, to invest yourself. Somehow, his guys seem to make the investment, given the respect and the opportunity.

PS, and here's one more story-line.... what if BB's style with his psycho head-case wideout works, and Parcells gets to watch the transformation of Randy Moss at home on TV... oh, right, and gets pissed off, changes the channel, and the only other game on has TO catching a touchdown pass in Dallas?

Hmmmn... something appropriate to the occasion "...When I was a child, I acted as a child... When Ii was an adult, I put away the things of a child and acted as a man..."

Some people taker longer to grow up than others, especially when he is showered with $ millions for playing a child's game, that came so effortlessly.

Randy Moss at 18, Randy Moss at 22, are not the same person as Randy Moss at 30 years old.

He was never a thug like Pacman, but a young rebel, smoking pot, and loafing, and raising hell and being outrageous. The meter maid incident had to be blown up out of all proportion, else he would have been charged.

Now he feels his athletic mortality, gave up $17 million dollars ( !!!!) and came to play for a piece of jewelry that he can buy with pocket change.

Why? Because he wants the intangibles now. Recognition and immortality of sorts in the Hall of Fame.
