Ok,we got our safety @ 24 and stockpiled some more picks for next year. Like it or not that's the way it is, so let's move on to day 2.
Who's still available that you would like the Pat's to draft? For me,if the Pat's manage to grab ILB Brandon Siler I will be very excited. I think he can do good things in a Pat's uni. I also like lb Zak Deossie out of Brown.

Yeah, day 1 has been like a bad trip to Vegas. But atleast the hotels had the decency to comp us for our visit next year.

What makes you think the Patriots will use a pick on Day 2?

I'm sure we will trade all of our day 2 picks for a #4 next year. Then next year after Bruschi & Vrabel retire, we will pick a TE with one of the #1 picks, and trade the other #1 for a #1 in 2009. Then in 2009.......you get the picture. At least I'll save my money on draft guides the next few years.

I know you are just trying to be a jerk here, but this is an excellent idea. Every year trade that first rounder for another pick and a next year's first rounder.
Every year you get an extra pick. Think of it.Year after year your base is eight picks vs everyone else's base of seven picks. And you always have an extra first rounder in case someone exceptional fall into your lap.
(If you goto patriots.com you will see an article which explains the trading the first pick for next year.)
It is fairly obvious that the Pats FO/scouts didn't want anything to do with this draft class. They didn't trade down...they traded out! They didn't get full value for either #28 or #91, which tells you how little they valued those picks this year. I don't think they wanted to take a day 1 prospect that they didn't strongly believe could make the gameday active 45. Don't want a first day pick to languish on the inactive list (sorry Marquise).
So what does this tell us about day 2 (9 picks, 4 must be used)? Pretty much search for some diamonds in the rough. Take some flyers and hope to score on 1 or 2 long-term propects that can help on special teams now. If there was ANYONE that they really liked that is still on the board, I think they would have kept #91.
Who should be on the radar? Contribute on special teams, position flexibility, intelligent/coachable. I have no idea who fits that profile. I'll get back to you tomorrow night.

Like Ben Watson. For a team like the Pats that expects to pick in the 25-32 range, having an extra 1st allows you to use the better pick and trade out of the lower one. Eventually, you are going to trade with someone that has a HORRIBLE year and lands you an elite prospect. Seattle's pick was dangerously close to being in the low-mid teens this year. They can make it up to us by throttling SF twice next year.
Maybe next year the Pats should put together a draft board?
(Seriously though, I think it was a good idea to trade out of the top of this draft. There was not a lot there, and we don't have many open roster spots).
