Isn't that more money than Richard Seymour got? If so, there is no way in HELL that the Pats would pay this guy more than Seymour. NO WAY!

Frankly my preference would be to move him out now and just avoid the inescapable drama that will surround eventually getting him into camp on the eve of the season. As mg said in one of his posts yesterday I'm not all that keen on playing a player who will be continually dealing with the conflicts inherrent in both trying to reprise and career season and not risk getting injured. I would much rather get the best compensation I can for him now than just one more season's use, and pre draft rather than post draft for obvious reasons since whether he plays one more season here or none we are better served to get another young CB situated in the pipeline and on the roster this year rather than next year.
Of course, there's another very tangible and real reason to move him as fast as they can, and that's knowing exactly what is happening with the $8 mill he'd have coming his way with the tag.

Teams like Tennessee or the Saints might be willing to just give there number 1 straight out for Samuel.
Tenessee is #19 - that gets us to within striking range of Revis or even Hall if we're willing to pay a higher price. Saints at #27, I'd want more than just that.
Patriots are in a pretty good spot, Samuel can threaten to holdout all he wants but he won't - it's 500K (that's half a million) per game.
Nate Clements is a veteran who has done it well for many years - Asante Samuel is a kid who had one great season.
That said, Nate Clements isn't even worth "Nate Clements $$$$$$$", so I know Asante isn't worth "Nate Clements $$$$$$$$"!
Just shut up and play for $7.9m and be happy you're not slinging rock and pimping chickenheads on 31st Avenue and 19th Street in Lauderdale like all your teammates from Boyd Anderson HS!
Ungrateful ba$ tard!
You know the "I gotta feed my family" and "I jes' need re-spek" lines are coming soon from Ty Law, Jr.!
Like many of you, I am appalled at the tidbit that Reiss put in his column. There is NO FRIGGIN WAY Asante is worth 10 mill a year over the 1st 3 years of his contract. NONE. Unless he became the 2nd coming of Michael Haynes when we all weren't looking.
Basically, what Asante is asking for is what he'd get if the Pats franchised him 3 consecutive times. This year at 7.79, next year at 9.24 and the final year at what the QBs are going to be projected for next year. It utter stupidity.
Asante, don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out. You are a good player, but you aren't ELITE, yet. You are NOT in the class of Brady, Seymour, and Champ Bailey. Lets see if we can trade him to a team for a younger CB and a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
Isn't Ronde Barber better than Samuel ? Why would the Bucs do that ? Nobody's that dumb.
Except you need to take into consideration that Barber is 32. So he is 6 years older than Samuel. Yes, Barber is still very good, but Samuel has the age on him.
