Default Pats re-sign Wright, Mays (ERFAs) and Baker, Mruczkowski (RFAs) [merged]

Patriots re-signed restricted free agents Gene Mruczkowski, an offensive lineman, and Rashad Baker, a defensive back.

Baker, who had two tackles last year, is special teams help. Mruczkowski often finds himself on the street during the season but the Pats usually bring him back. Both will compete to make the team in training camp

Patriots re-signed exclusive rights free agents Mike Wright, a defensive lineman, and Corey Mays, a linebacker.

The promising Wright filled in for Vince Wilfork and held up in 2006. Mays will look to help ease the loss of Don Davis on special teams.

So, who are the RFA's left that we haven't signed?

Almost certainly not - they have full control of him until he becomes an RFA next year, of course provided he accrues a season this year.

I'd pull the trigger on that deal now, for reasonable money.

I suppose we could tender him high, I'm not too conversant with the RFA thing.

Obviously we have to lock him up at money where we'd get a 1st or second since we get nothing based on his FA status.

Please tell me if I'm making no sense here, but I have no problem with offering the guy security for his hard work.

Again, he's still under their control as an ERFA for one more year. There's no need to risk money that you don't need to risk.

They'll probably sign him to a long-term deal before free agency opens next year.

Does Patrick Pass have pictures of BB or Pioli with sheep or something?

No need to further speculate on the secret to the longevity of Mr. Pass. Unless half of the RBs in TC succumb to injury, he will not make the 53, if he is re-signed at all.

As for Mays, Baker, Mruc: they are inexpensive tackling dummies, nothing more, to be (hopefully) discarded by September.
