Re: Is Anyone Concerned About Thomas' Age?
How can you not be concerned about a guy that is nearly 30 years old?
Lets get one thing straight here. As big as this signing is, AD Thomas isn't Ray Lewis. He is no Tedy Bruschi or Brian Urlacher. His comparisons are best with maybe McGinest or Colvin. Sure he has a bit more versatility to him, but in the end, he can only line up at one position.
Knowing that this signing is more comparable to signing McGinest when he was 30 years old and knowing that the Pats released him at the age of 35, I'm glad the contract is only for 5 years and that he will already be familiar with the defense.
You can't pay a guy at the age of 30 to figure out a new defense (Chad Brown) and hope he gets it before his skills diminish so far that the contract was a waste.
Realistically, I hope to see one dominate year out of him and three decent years. If the Pats can align the stars, they can have a another championship or two before it is all said and done.
