Great field position, no Maroney and Hobbs on the return team, a replacement for our soon to retire versatile smurf.

This is a kid who can multi-task. WR/KR/PR/PK and who knows what else he could be coached up to do.
I'd give a #2 for Wanker. Look at the crappy job we've done with our 2nd round out of college. Last good round 2 pick we made that wasn't a bust was Dillon.

We already have a couple guys best suited to be a #3 WR. It makes no sense to give up a #2 for a thrid guy with that ability.

I've seen Welker outside of his games with the Pats and I'm very impressed. He looked like the ONLY guy on the Doofins' offense that came to work 100% every single week. That, and like mentioned, he's versatile and might come cheap.

As a charter member of the Wes Welker Fan Club since months ago,
i am tickled to see the Phins give us this opportunity.

It is one of the few times we muse about this player or that ...
and i am confident that the f/o is hard at work right now
trying to make a fit.

If the team were to blow a 2nd rounder signing a RFA, I'd much rather it was Hackett. He could be a lot more than just a slot receiver (albeit a very good slot receiver).

What reason is there to think he'd come cheap? For starters, he already carries the price tag of a second round pick unless a trade could be worked out. The chance of that in the division is extremely remote. The pick itself is expensive for Welker- Javon Walker was Denver's return on a #2 pick for a point of comparison.

Welker would also be giving up URFA a season from now by signing a long term deal with us. It isn't realisitc that he would do that for a cheap deal.

A 2nd round pick plus the $ he would want is very expensive for a good slot WR and average or slightly below average return man (28th and 21st in KR and 11th and 15th in PR the last 2 years).

Please cite better uses of our 2nd round pick in recent Pats history. Dillon is all I got.

Prrior to the announcement of CJ's ACL injury, I was all for doing anything reasonable to get Welker. Still am,with the caveat that we would probably have to pick up a FA LB or WR that can play. Would still leave us with 2 late rd. 1st's.
Then we jump to 3rd. Not too bad, IMO.

Welker is that good. If we don't game plan for him, he kills us. He would be a definite upgrade in the slot, no offense to Troy. Not to mention it would be good to have another WR we didn't have to "coach up" excessively.
