Default Some of you maybe were wrong about Corey last year?

Apparently just heard on Sirius Radio from a direct statement made by Dillon's agent that Corey has NO intentions of retiring this year...Fact is he just does not want to play for the New England Patriots anymore.

Many of you during all of last year were definate that Corey was fine with splitting time with Maroney cause thats what you saw, heard, and read BUT now with this statement shows me that he was NOT happy splitting time with Maroney and although they did get along on the field and Corey was like a big brother to Laurence, secretly Corey was not happy with the decision to grab Maroney last year and went along just to be a team player and sucked his ego inside himself,Thats a class act and a thing many players would not do.

I think Corey well hid his inner feelings and went all last year knowing that he was not going to be happy just like when he was on and off (more off) with Rudi in Cincinnati ,but this time he never went balistic and kept all inside.

Give lots of credit to Corey for not being a distraction in the clubhouse and not bringing back memories of his last years in Cincinnati.

He thinks he still has tons left in the tank and simply does not want to waste it in New England with only 10-12 carries a game,And you can't blame him for that,If he thinks he can offer the right team a full time RB position then more power to him...But it was not going to happen here in NE and I wish him luck and another 1,000 yard season wherever he plays (as long as he does not play against us next year and if he does,no 100 yard game is at our expense)

With the right kind of offense and a good OL in front of him I think he will do well (Green Bay is my pick for him to land, especially since Ahman Green may be gone or maybe Baltimore where theres a hole there)

I wish him the best but he is NOT the RB he was a few years ago.

Does a class act tell his teammates and the media that he's retiring only to have his agent correct his misstatements.

As long as he did not act in a way that was detrimental to the team in the REGULAR SEASON I see no damage to his rep here.

Like I said,I saw him being a very unhappy player but kept it to himself and probably within his closest family but there was no way he was O.K. with splitting time last year and that is VERY evident now.

"I dealt with the snaps," he said of sharing the load with rookie Laurence Maroney last season. "In all honesty, it helped me more than anyone else. I stayed fresh. I'm injury-free. I enjoyed my time with my teammates. I have a bond with some of the guys and I'll miss the [running back] room. Those guys are my boys for life."

Note the quotation marks. Last year was last year. Dillon is healthier, Maroney needs more carries.

You make inferences based only on your own feelings and state them as facts.

I think Dillon's torn between retiring for his health or finding a team where he can get more carries towards a HOF vote.

What did he think of the situation last year? Why not read his own words?

Wow that didn't take long. I wonder how long it will take Pats fans to bad mouth Belichick once he moves on.

Agreed. Why must we go through this "classless" BS with everyone?

I guess you know more than any NFL reporter or Dillons agent as quoted today.....I guess if he was stating he is running for president in 2008 you would believe it too.

Players often change feelings when seasons end,I am sure he loves the guys in the locker room but he needs a team that will give him the ball 25 times a game,What he said last year IS LAST YEAR!

Did you ever have a girlfriend when you were younger and said 'I love you and want to be with you forever'...I did and never kept to that once she was gone',things change, days come and go,feelings come and go - leave the past.. Corey is not happy here anymore and wants a team better suited for 1 primary back thats the bottom line, get over it dude.

IF that's what Corey wants, I can't blame him. He needs another decent year or two, stat-wise, to guarantee himself a pedestal in Canton. With his reduced workload he is not likely to get that here, he knows it, and he also knows he is not getting any younger.

Given the $3.0M roster bonus due on 3/1 (if that's when it is) and the indications that the team was trying to get him to renegotiate his deal, why is he obligated to stay here and play for less? If the Pats were to pay him the bonus, he would be obligated to stay (or retire and repay part of his 2005 signing bonus), but there is no reason he has to play here if the team is not willing to do that.

I'm not blaming the team either, by the way. It's just business as usual in the NFL.

However, none of this jives with his statement that he wants to retire before his body gives out. He either wants to play or not - and if he wants to play elsewhere why not just say that, refuse to redo his deal, and let the team release him on 3/1 rather than pay him the roster bonus? And that way he doesn't have to repay anything.
