Damien Woody, bad attitude on the ropes with the Lions..
Interesting note I came across, from Sporting News.. guess Money is the root of all evil.. too bad, played well for us. Few other articles floating around, indicating there are some big issues with his work ethic, and the Lions are not real pleased with him.
Coach Rod Marinelli will try to improve the Lions by adding talent--and subtracting bad attitudes. Marinelli knows he can't completely cleanse the locker room, but the team is willing to take some salary cap hits to improve the atmosphere. Among the players who could be set free: WR Mike Williams, G Damien Woody and DT Marcus Bell. . . .

This is another good reason for the Patriots to be wary of spending too much money on big FA acquisitions.
Samuel, for instance, has played hard and brilliantly down the straight this season. Playing for his money. If the Pats stump up for him, he's got his money and his rings. Now I don't know the guy at all and what his competitive instincts are and how his work ethic is so I'm not casting aspersions.
But it seems to me the two rings and the sort of massive contract being given him somewhere are a combination that could make some guys take their feet off the pedal a little.

Read through the note and said; yeah ok what else is new about a guy the Pats let go. Then I did a second look...Whoa; wait a minute nelly.

Isn't the reason the Lions would pay a big cap hit is because they paid Woody to be a CENTER; not a guard.
Admittedly I can't follow NFC conference 4-12 team rosters to the gnats azz detail; but WHEN DID HE GET DEMOTED FROM CENTER? Was it for his same Long snapping difficulties he had with Pats?
CAN I PLEASE HOPE that If folks keep having difficulty with guys they over-pay to steal from Pats that the teams will be restrained when it comes time to offer Asante real money?????????????
Or with 31 other teams out there; there is always guaranteed to be one D. Snyder in the bunch. ahhh well.
Re: Damien Woody, bad attitude on the ropes with the Lions..
Woody is going through some personal problems as well. Not sure of all of the details but I guess he was promising marriage to one woman while married to another. Could have something to do with his "attitude."
Re: Damien Woody, bad attitude on the ropes with the Lions..
If Woody gets cut (that sounds creepy), can Pats pick him up cheap and make something of him, or is he basically finished (turns 30 in November)....you can always use an extra guard who can back up center, even if he has two wives and isn't mormon, can't you?

Woody was useful in his time with the Pats, but they were obviously correct in not overpaying him. I think BB had his work ethic nailed perfectly.
If Woody returns he will be Jonathan Sullivan Part II.

As the resident Lions "fan" representative on these forums, allow me to interject.
Woody never got demoted from center to right guard. He was signed to be a right guard the entire time.
Way back in 2001, the Lions drafted (2 spots behind the Pats, after the Pats switched picks and took Matt Light) the highly-regarded Nebraska center Dominic Raiola. He has pretty much started full time since then, and was signed to a nice big contract (5yr, ~18 million) in the 2005 offseason. In scouting report after scouting report, he and Jeff Backus are consistantly mentioned as the only pro-caliber members of the Detroit offensive line, Backus having been drafted in the first round that year.
Hence, in the 2004 offseason, Matt Millen signed noted guard and lardass Damien Woody to a six year, top of the market contract to play... guard. Over the next three years, the coaches and organization have systematically destroyed whatever pride, motivation, and work ethic he might have brought with him from New England. Next year he'll be backing up the line in Cleveland.
