Default Heath Evans - good on him

Heath Evans is never to be Barry Sanders, but god bless him for this little nugget that came from Reiss' assessment of the team's FA situation. This sort of attitude is worth its weight in gold - although it's not a great negotiating tactic from his point of view - and I hope he gets rewarded with a good deal that keeps him here.

Heath Evans -- Fullback became a vital contributor on offense and special teams. He expressed his desire to return, saying: "Fit-wise, it couldn’t be more perfect. I could care less about money. I’m a loyalist. They were good to me at a time the game of football wasn’t."

That rocks.

Evans rocks.

Will always remember when Evans came on board and destroyed Miami. Was a treat to watch.

Yup, when we were discussing new team leaders emerging Heath was a prime suspect with the on-field cheerleading he's always doing.

Between this and the late season captaincy, I'm reading my coffee grounds (I don't drink tea) as meaning Heath is the first domino, followed by my man Graham.

I think evan`s will stay just because as we get more than what we pay for.
We added a FB from the gators in pratice squad very late in the season .... Being younger heath might take more carries splitting with dillon as the power back.We need a downhill back and he is better in blocking too.

Graham is a top TE.... he man handles most OLB and DL sometimes and i like his attitude. But we just signed a 270 lb 6 7 LB for 2007 so they are preparing. We have 1 more TE on IR now.

Who??

Nevermind. I looked him up, and guess what? He was drafted by the Steelers in the
6th round draft.

Wow. First time I've ever been asked that. It's the handle i've used online since I first started using the internet. It's a combination of the two UK teams I support, London Wasps in rugby, which if I'm honest is my first sporting love, and a soccer team called West Ham, one of whose nicknames is the Irons, in honour of their heritage as the London Ironworks football club in the nineteenth century.

What I particularly love about the Heath Evans quote is that it is straight fron the London Wasps coaching manual. THey have built a great team based on picking up the waifs and strays from othe places, so I have a particular affinity for players like Evans and Gaffney who have been thrown on the scrapheap elsewhere but have reemerged as key cogs in the machine of at teams that understand their value.

European rugby is very different from the NFL, but the way in which BB and SP have built the Patriots in the salary cap - which also exists in English rugby - is very similar to the way Wasps have built a champion team in which loyalty and playing for the club is more important - but not inconsistent with - personal gain.
