Default Raiders job: Mort doesn't mention McDaniels

Chris Mortensen was on ESPN Radio a second ago and said that Sarkisian was the Raiders man. He doesn't know where they'll go from here but thought maybe they could be interested in Mike Martz or Jim Fassel. Raider Nation apparently wants Rob Ryan to get a promotion, but Mort has his doubts whether Davis will buck the trend and go with a defensive coach. Mort didn't mention McDaniels as a possible candidate. Maybe Schefter has inside stuff or he could be guessing where they'll go to and he took a swing with McDaniels.

Mort also said there's a debate within the Steelers organization whether they'll should promote from within (Grimm) or do what they did 15 years ago and hire a young coach from another team (Tomlin).

Because going for offensive coaches has worked out so well for them the last few years.

I live abour 25 miles from Oakland and today it was reported Steve Sarkisian turned the Raiduhs down. He apparently woke up. The media writes about the Raiduhs HC job like only an idiot would take it. They do report our own Josh McDaniels is supposedly who Al wants now. I don't think Josh is that stupid. For an example of what teh media writes about this out here:

Raider's Starting QB Next Year: DREW BLEDSOE.

You heard it here first.

I've mentioned that to people myself, it makes a lot of sense in a Jim Plunkett kind of way. Al loves those old QBs with big arms.

Not just that, but Bledsoe is not going to stand to be a back-up. And the Raiders are the only team hurting enough to take a failed veteran with a good arm.

* Al hasn't had much luck drafting round 1 QB's the last few he drafted. But I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the kid from LSU.

Mort was on NFL countdown this morning and mentioned McDaniels as a leading candidate/frontrunner/person of interest, something like that.

Interesting. Maybe he forgot about McDaniels last night. Any other names?

Like everyone else, I have the mind of a zombie today. But I just remember him saying that Sarkesian had negotiated a 3 year/$6.3M deal and decided against and that the Raiders planned to look at McDaniels.
