As Ron Burgundy would say, "Agree to disagree."

I absolutely understand what you are saying, but making them a good team is all Schottenheimer can do. He is 5-13 in the postseason and is the coach with the most regular season wins to never make a Superbowl appearance. I think if the Chargers want to take the next step they need to look elsewhere.

That pretty much sums it up.
Also,in addition to what happened Sunday, that playoff record shows there's just something weirdly wrong somewhere.

Fire him. Giving LT the ball only 8 times in the 2nd half was inexcusable. Following up a 1st down run of 5 yards with two (incomplete) passes on their penultimate possession was ridiculous. The guy was so concerned about his Martyball reputation that he turns it on his head *with no rhyme or reason*. Instead of passing because the Pats were stuffing the run, he passed for the sake of passing. What is that crap?

Regards,
Chris

Marty is a damn good coach. The vast majority of coaches don't get to the Superbowl, and a similarly small number get 14-2 seasons. Can't fire Marty unless you can find someone better, but there aren't many out there.

His underuse of LT, I still can't figure that one out. He's one of the players that got you there to begin with,so play him. He's a beast.

I think Marty has earned at least another season. A lot has been made of his terrible postseason record, but it's not like he was 5-13 in playoff games with the Chargers.

What he did coaching other teams is irrelevant to his current situation. It would be like Kraft dumping BB for something he did coaching the Browns.

Marty should be given the benefit of the doubt that he can learn something from this failure and be a better coach next time...just like BB learned from his failures in Cleveland.

Of course, if he screws up a bye again next year...

This analysis draws no parallel. Bill Belichick coached for a a few years with the Browns, won one playoff game, and lost one. He also won two Superbowls as a coordinator. What Marty has been doing as stretched over 20 years with four different teams. Failure over a short period in one situation is not the same thing as failure over a long period in many situations.

Exactly. If you hire a person with a long history of failure to run your business, hoping that given all the right personnel the person will make it succeed but still that person doesn't,then it's obvious where the problem lies. Whether you fire that person or not is another issue, but you don't keep him based just on hope that all lessons were learned and suddenly 20 years will be erased after one game. I don't disrespect Marty,he's been around a long time and is a good coach, but it's pretty obvious by now that something's missing.
It's sad that after all those years, not winning in the playoffs seems to be what he'll be remembered for.

Actually, you can. You call him into your office and say, "You're fired." It's not hard. Of course, I would have fired him a long time ago if I owned the Chargers. Actually, I never would have hired him. He's a big fraud.
