..... well get out your crying towels ... he needs some sympathy

Ravens | Mason frustrated over role in offense
Sun, 14 Jan 2007 07:50:30 -0800
Edward Lee, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens WR Derrick Mason voiced his displeasure over his role within the offense following the team's divisional playoff defeat versus the Indianapolis Colts. "It has been frustrating for me from the standpoint that you work so hard in the offseason to try to put yourself in a position physically to go 16 games. But when you go into the season, you just don't feel appreciated," said Mason, who finished with two receptions for 16 yards. "You don't feel appreciated. You just don't, and that's the way I feel. Whether you say it's selfish or not, anybody that's worked in a work force wants to feel appreciated at some point in time, and I just didn't feel appreciated at all the whole season. That's what it boils down to."

Well I know a team that would have paid him more and worshipped the ground he walked on if he was even just a solid contributor.

I would be mad if I played on that putrid offense.

Not that it is ever OK to openly criticize your tema, but he is exactly right. He and Clayton are both playmakers, yet the only plays they run are little bootlegs where McNair throws to the fullback for three yards.

Maybe if McNair wasn't three years past his prime and could actually move an offense, he wouldn't have reason to complain like that. He knew what he was getting into with the Ravens, though, so it's hard to feel too much sympathy for him. Should have taken the Pats' money.

Derrick Mason was invisible all year. I should know, I had him on my fantasy team. He had one good game, that's it. Either he stinks or he's right that they never threw him the ball.

I also had him on my fantasy team for a stretch (before I traded him), and I'd keep track of his thrown to numbers... they weren't very good, he did drop some balls, but mostly they didn't throw to him much at all. But it wasn't just him, they didn't go to the wide receivers, including Mark Clayton, much, period. Mostly, the passing game was fixated on the TE and RB positions, and most of the time the offense would just grind out some points on the ground and ride the defense to a win. Which is why I didn't like the Ravens' chances all year - they never were any good on offense, which won't get it done in the postseason, no matter how good your defense is.
