Default Patriots 5 point underdogs

I'm not all that surprised - happy in fact to see that the Patriots are underdogs coming into SD... the Patriots players LOVE that!

http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/las-vegas/

What will be interesting to me is to see how the line changes (or doesn't) change as I recognize the las vegas line is strictly designed to ensure that an equal number of people are betting for both teams. If too many people take the Pats with that spread (and I think MANY people will) expect it to shift.

No disrespect to the Chargers, but in many ways I am more confident of winning this game than I was coming into the Jets.

Some of the intangibles for the Jets worried me - the fact that Mangini knows our team inside and out. The fact that the Jets had absolutely nothing to lose coming into the game, being major over achievers - and conversely that the pressure on the Patriots and coaching staff to win was significant - even beyond the one and done playoff environment.

With the Chargers, its the opposite in many ways - the SD defense is not as good as the Ravens (though we shouldn't underestimate them) we are underdogs and really have nothing to lose.

All the pressure is on SD to come through - and a ton of pressure on the Coaching staff to show they can win a playoff game.

So I for one, love the underdog status!

I thought it would be 7 and I think it may creep up. SD is the "cool" team right now and I think at -5 the money will lean that way.

I think if oddsmakers truly looked at the way both teams are playing, the line would be even if not in the Pats favor. It's just hard for an oddmaker to make a 14-2 team an underdog at home.

It was higher but they lowered it after yesterday's game.

I made a bet with a friend of mine during the game of what the spread would be for the SD game. I said 5 points he said 7 or higher. Home field is 3 points which has the Pats at a 2 point underdog on a neutral field, this is perfectly fair. I am interested to watch how that line dances around this week because so far as I am hearing every media member slurping the Pats more then SD much to our shagrin.

SD should be favored based on the regulatr season. The biggest advantage the Chargers have is the bye week, OTOH the Pats has another week for the O to get in sync and BB will cook up another great game plan for this week.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Not at all surprising. If I was making book, I'd offer the same line.

SD is clearly the "sexy" pick. Gotta make room for the "hot, new, 'next Tom Brady' " in Rivers. Etc.

We'll see. Does Tom have enough left in the tank? Will the O-line give him time and make some holes for Corey, LM, and our little Faulk? Will our D rise to the challenge and do what it must??

Tune in next Sunday and find out.

The pressure is all on the Chargers. Marty's horrid playoff record, Chargers have won 10 straight, a one year starting QB's first playoff game. There are a lot of things the Chargers must overcome besides the playoff experienced Patriots.

Well its 5 now - I think Las Vegas will find that everyone's putting their money on the Patriots and it will move significantly.
