Asanta is a good CB, but he is NOT an ELITE QB in any sense of the term.
Just look at today. How many times was he playing off the receiver by 10 yards and they hit that receiver?
The other BS in that article was this and I think it came from Benny Sapp:
""I don't know what's going on with the Patriots, but let me tell you this: Forget all that talk about the 'system.' The system doesn't make the player; the player makes the system. That's not why he's picked off all those balls.""
That is clearly someone who doesn't know wtf he is talking about.

A perfect storm. Asante pads his stats, while still being somewhat inconsistent, and the naive media swoons over him and annoints him a star without really analyzing his gambling style of play closely. Then the juicy contract situation and a chance to belittle the Pats Front Office again, with a story which is clearly weeks old at this point since teams are not currently negotiating anything.
Yeah, Asante should shut up. But his quotes are likely weeks old at this point, and thus the need for the new injection of qoutes from Sapp to make the story seem current.
The bad timing of this story is on the Globe, IMO.
But Asante still needs to shut up.
