Default Charlie Weis Makes A Better NFL Head Coach Than College Coach?

I truly think despite having a Cinderella type campaign in his first year as Notre Dame coach I am now thinking that he is not a very good college coach,Notre Dame has not improved from his first year and is going downhill..Its not all Charlies fault but I don't think the college game is for him.

If the Giants or even the Dolphins can get him out of his Notre Dame Contract just like it did in reverse to Saban I think he goes...Can you just Imagine if he goes to Miami? - Mangini at the Jets and Weis as Dolphins coach - Wow!

I think the pro game is meant for him and can see him with some success as well-Im betting he gets out of his Notre Dame contract and goes to the NFL,Even for potentially a little less money.

Have you seen the footage of Weiss at Notre Dame? The facilities are unbelieveable...his office , workout room, all the help he has...he is like a king in a palace. No way Weiss leaves Notre Dame ... only 3 ways he leaves. He is forced out, sickness, or retirement ... he is living a dream.

You have to give more time for college coaches to settle due to recruiting. Weis's first class are just freshmen. He's also got 2006's #1 rated prospect, QB Jimmy Clausen, coming in the spring.

But he couldn't take the heat, I guess. Or maybe it was his wife, as his jilted owner tried to spin it. In the NFL you don't have the promise of a top draft class coming in every season. Saban quickly re-assessed Miami as a dead end job with no light at the end of the tunnel. Schefter just summed it up pretty well - he had fear of failure snakes in his head.

Charlie's second draft class is not yet on the campus. Reportedly he has the most highly touted HS QB in the country coming in. He lost some key players last season and there were not suitable replacements in the pipeline. The defense was never great, but absent an electric offense it really struggled. Plus I have sensed all season watching them that for some of these kids overnight success became a given. I think the time Samardizja spent pitching this summer, and maybe the Cubs contract, showed. He and Quinn never seemed truly in synch, particularly in the first half of games.

Given his concerns for his children, I think Charlie will stay at ND as he indicated again this week until his son graduates (and I think he meand from ND!). He's getting paid enough money to take care of Hannah, and just built his wife a beautiful home where she can have horses. Life is good, aside from 2 bowl game defeats.

Reading his book right now, kinda hard to see him from splitting until he can bring respectability to that program again. It was obvious last night that LSU was a much more physical and better team than the Irish. Give him at least two more years, then see what happens.. if he cannot bring post season success by then or the following year, he will be gone anyways. The problem with Notre Dame is the whole academics thing, which is valued and sometimes undervalued at other schools.

Baloney. They take the same semi-illiterate players with combined 820 SAT scores as any other semi-pro college program.

Don't confuse decent admissions standards for real students with recruiting standards for NCAA 1A money sport athletes.

The highest average SAT scores for a 1A football program is Stanford -- right around 1000 combined. Try applying to Stanford with 500 Verbal 500 Math if you aren't a hired gun masquerading as a student athlete. Remember, that 1000 is an average. Notre Dame is probably down around 900 like USC.

Academic standards for these programs are total BS.

Perhaps he wouldn't be a good NFL head coach either. I like Charlie but football is littered with great co-ordinators who never make it in the top slot. Right now it's all specualtion.

Did you read his book, he claims something different.. not sure where you get these stats, but know the graduation rate of ND is very high.

NCAA announces graduation rates -

There were a few surprises in the NCAA's report of student-athlete graduation rates for DIA and DIAA schools. Overall, graduation at D-IA schools is up to 77% nationwide. The statistics are based on the incoming classes of 1996-97 through 1999-2000. The percentages reflect graduation rates in all sports over a four-year period, with athletes given six years to graduate.
#1 Navy 98%
#2 Boston College 96%
#3 Notre Dame #95%
#4 Stanford 94%
#5 Wake Forest 93%
#5 Duke 93%
#5 Air Force 93%
Big time programs at the bottom:
#204 Alabama 44%
#204 Minnesota 44%
#204 Cal 44%
#214 Georgia 41%
#216 Texas 40%
#217 Arizona 39%
