Smile Jets can still win division.....

I'm sure most people know this but for the people that aren't aware, the next two games will decide which team wins the division. The king of tightness breaks it down like this:

*A Pats win would clinch division.
*If the Pats and Jets both lose Sunday - the Pats will win division.
*If the Pats lose their next two games and the Jets win their next two games leaving both teams at 10-6 - Jets win the division because they will have a better conference record at 7-5 to the Pats 6-6.

I would like to see the Jets get the #5 seed and come back to Gillette for a rematch of that fluke game that consisted of rain and pourus field conditions. The only way I see that happening is having Denver losing one more game, Cincinnati losing more game and the Jets winning their next two games should put them into the 5th spot. Denver and Cincinnati play this weekend. That means New England must take care of business and win out as well. Should be interesting to see who comes out on top. The game in Tennessee might not be meaningless after all.

P.S. Regarding the smile next to my title, I have no idea why I put that.

It would be perfect if the Jets won the division. The pats would only have themselves to blame by letting the jets win at foxboro.

Can't believe the job Mangini (still think he should be called manGINA) has done in NY. I thought Pennington was done as well.

You gotta remember, last year the Jets were picked by a lot of people to win the Super Bowl. Until Pennington got hurt. With no quarterback they stunk it up and received some nice young talent from the draft. So while Mangini has done a nice job, I think some people are really over hyping the job he has done.

Here's another issue. If the above happens and
Jags win against Chiefs in week 17 and
Broncos win out against Bengals and 49ers.
The Pats, Jags, and Broncos finish with 10-6 records and guess which team doesn't go to the playoffs.....

I can't believe this is even a remote possibility, but it is......

yeah but the odds are not too good.
16 possible outcomes but only 1 makes it possible for JETs to win the division.

Miami hates the JETs and will be doing everything possible to get revenge
and to regain face after shutout to Bills.
Jets will beat Oakland unless a highly improbable event happens.
So if we just eliminate that game there
are still 8 possibilites remaining and only 1 lets Jets win division.
Still not very good odds.

Besides If PATs should lose out they shouldn't be in the playoffs anyway. IMO.

Just to add to the scenarios, no matter how improbable -- New England wins the division with a tie in either of its last 2 games or if the Jets tie either of their last two games.

So in the unlikely event we have the ball on first down with 2:00 left in overtime and our opponent is out of time outs, kneeling on the ball to clinch the division would be the play rather than risking a turnover to try to get the win.

That IS an interesting observation. I think BB would do just that especially if we had lost to the Jags and the Jets had won. Probably the TV announcers would be dumbfounded until an assistant did the research.

I agree. Before the injury wrecked 2005, they were 10-6 just the year before and were darn close to beating Pittsburgh (a FG would have done it) and facing the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

That said, Miami has a pretty good chance to beat them - I'm glad it's Monday night, that guarantees Miami won't lay down.

And shades of the Denver game a few years ago, BB taking a safety to improve his teams chance of winning...
Taking a step back to be able to take two steps forward......I can see it happening....
