While I did some research, I am not sure that my guesstimate is correct.

I think that the five highest adjusted cap numbers for offensive linemen this year are

Jake Long 11,325,000
Jahri Evans 9,400,000
Eric Steinbach 9,025,000
Eugene Monroe 8,752,500
Joe Thomas 8,200,000

That is an average of 9,340,500. I would not be surprised to see Mangold's name on the list once the details of his contract come out.
Actually I wouldn't be surprised to not see it because I doubt he's seeing much front money in 2010. Much like Ferguson. Woody can deny it til the cows come home but he could have given Mangold a signing bonus and fully guaranteed salary because his deal isn't an extension. So he's either got a cash flow problem or he's not fronting or guaranteeing anyone (beyond those signed previously like Sanchez) a nickel beyond 2010 because of the fear of a lockout (or concern about the terms of any new CBA).

You know as well as I do he didn't keep his money. Uncle Sam took close to half of it off the top. Have you seen his home? How much did it cost (or is he living in his folks home on the 10000 acre ranch he doesn't own)? I do know he bought his mom and his fiancee and himself new wheels when he first signed. Where is his money being kept, under the mattress? If he invested it he's probably lost a chunk of it like everyone else...I'm sure he's better off than Cromartie, but he doesn't yet have double digit millions salted away, and he could have.

He doesn't need to bother signing anything until a trade is made that would include him going to an acceptable team for an acceptable salary.

Except for the fact that Bill is a hard ass when it comes to even discussing a trade for or with a player who isn't signed...

Except that, if Mankins 'sees' the same thing, he can just rush on down and sign that Franchise offer. At that point, he'll be making more than $10 million dollars to play guard.

Not necessarily because sometimes the tag goes down...and I think BB is in a position to assess Mankins market before Mankins can...legally. He can't talk to anyone for the first two weeks he's tagged. Bill on the other hand can...

How is it spiting himself? He'll be making more than $10 million dollars for one season. You can't have it both ways. If it's all about money, it's a huge win for him, since he'll be banking all that money at age 29 and ready for a megadeal the following year, or for another franchise tag at 120%. If it's all about principle, the tag is irrelevant.
He'll be spiting himself because he's a man of principle who said he would never play here again...which is also why he wouldn't be likely to pre-emptively sign the tag. Players who truly want out never do.

1.) You have no idea what he "could have".

2.) You have no idea what he "does have", other than what the story informs of.

3.) If you have a problem with the article from today, take it up with the author.

Not really. Bill has no say in the matter. That decision is 100% Mankins.

1.) Miguel gave his current estimate of the 2011 franchise tag value. It's still smarter, financially, for Mankins to sit this season and then let BB tag him next year.

2.) Kindly show me in the CBA where teams are allowed to discuss potential contract numbers of individual players with other teams.

Again, you don't seem to understand what spiting one's self means. You've been wrong about it every time you've used it.
