Default Question about our offensive line...

Who is our starting right tackle?

I thought it was Nick Kaczur, and Ryan O'Callahan had just been filling in for him for the first game or two because Nick was 'nicked' up (pun intended).

But I just checked depth charts on patriots.com and espn.com and they both list O'callahan as our starter. Has he taken over the role? Are the depth charts just not up to date? Was he always the starter and I just have it wrong? please advise.

thanx

O'Callaghan won the job out of training camp because Kaczur was hurt and couldn't compete for it. From what I have seen, they are both more than capable at handling the RT job. Kaczur is probably the leading candidate for the SWING tackle position. In other words, the primary back-up at both LT and RT.

Britt started I think. I saw Kazcur come in for a series in the 2nd Q.

Britt didn't look bad what what I saw early on.

Since when did Patriots depth charts become in any sense official?

Britt did look good at RT. I was pleasantly suprised. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't feel comfortable with him at LT. If Matt Light gets hurt I would definitely want Kaczur to fill in. No disrespect to Britt, I think he offers good depth on the right side.

ok so it sounds like O'Callahan won the job because Kaczur was too hurt to compete, but once Kaczur was ok, they just kept O'Callahan as the starter and decided to use Kaczur as the 'swing' backup. Then O'Callahan got hurt a bit and couldn't start - and they went with Britt? I thought Kaczur was the 1st backup? has Britt moved ahead of Kaczur as well? I know they were high on Kaczur last year and he brings good size.

ok - I was just reading the other 'ocallahan' thread, and got the impression that Kaczur is just now still recovering, so that explains why he has still had a very limited role.

I guess the starting right tackle remains an open question to be answered as the season progresses.

thanx.

No... what it says it we have four starting caliber offfensive tackles. Three of which can play left or right tackle and a rookie who is a RT specialist only.
As for size the are all repectable, but not "huge".

Light 6-4 305# LOTand probably acceptable ROT too. Best LOT run blocker in league per Dr. Z.
Kaczur 6-4 316# good LOT/ROT and probably Guard as well. Run Blocker too.
Britt 6-8 325# LOT/ROT. Great size for both postions. Too tall for Guard.
O'Callaghan 6-7 325# ROT only; Not quick enuf for LOT; too tall for Guard.
and
Logan Mankins could probably play LOT/ROT too.

who's the starter?
O'Callahan for now, until Kaczur is healthy enough for them to battle it out.
it may be that he keeps the spot, but we won't know until kaczur's healthy enough to return and compete, and we see how BB uses them. Britt is filling in with them both being dinged up.
I'm interested to see who winds up being the right tackle starter most of the time when all are healthy.
we'll see.

The starter is whoever is healthy.

Since neither Ryan nor Nick were last week, the starter was Wesley.

Since very few teams actually put out an official depth chart, the best and most frequently updated source is Ourlads:
