Bengals receiver Chad Johnson, on a conference call with New England reporters, asked the media to pass on the following messages to Patriots defenders:
"You tell 37 [Rodney Harrison], I'm going to knock his helmet off. Tell Asante [Samuel] that he should continue to have help for all four quarters, or his 22 will be 55; isn't that what it is upside down? Tell Junior [Seau], when I'm done with him ... never mind, I'm not going to pick on Junior. Tell Eugene Wilson, if he hits me across the middle, we'll probably have to fight and get thrown out of the game right there on the spot. My last hit I was going to take this year was in Cleveland. If anyone hits me like that again, they're going down."
Asked if the Patriots had a trash talker like Pittsburgh's Joey Porter, Johnson said: "No. Yeah. What am I talking about? Rodney. He's the original, old-school trash talker. He hits you and still talks trash. Punch you on the bottom of the pile, and talk trash. He's the original."
Johnson, who was clearly having fun, did say that he and Harrison speak before games.
"He's one of those guys I sit down and talk to every pre-game, for 20 to 25 minutes, on keeping my head clean and staying focused. More of a father-son talk every time I talk to Rodney. We did it two years ago when we played in the preseason. He gave me some great advice about staying on a straight line and staying focused, and staying out of trouble, and if I'm in the headlines make sure it was something positive."
Safety Rodney Harrison responded to playful comments made by Bengals receiver Chad Johnson. On Wednesday, Johnson said he was going to rip Harrison's helmet off.
"The circus is in town, or out of town, I should say," Harrison responded. "He's a funny guy. This is the way he brings humor to the game and keeps himself energized. I know it's all in fun. He didn't mean anything personal about it."
When a questioner told Harrison that Patriots coach Bill Belichick responded to the remarks, Harrison interrupted and said "Mr. Belichick", playing off Johnson's words from Wednesday.
Then Harrison explained his thoughts on Johnson's remarks, tongue in cheek.
"This is kind of similar to the Freddie Mitchell gig, but Chad is not on that level of receiver," Harrison said. "He's not as good as Freddie."
That led to some laughter around Harrison's locker.
Great entertainment! Gotta luv Rodney & BB's responses. I always tried doing this in sports but all I'd usually get was the other team's bench emptying and chasing after me. Not being a big guy (Samuel/Brown size), I knew how to run very fast.
Maybe this will help put an end to the belief that Belichick is serious and boring with noe sense of humor.
As a Bengals fan, I see this as a crafty move for Belichick. He talks trash (obviously joking) and loosens up the team a little bit going into a tough road game.
Smart move.

That's our coach, nobody can ever accuse him of not being smart

more to the point, he defuses the exchange of real trash talk to motivate the bengals, and puts the notion chad pushes off into the head of everyone. radio jockeys, television analysts, and possibly referees will be paying attention. Bill has started massaging the Refs days before the game even starts.
I hope it doesn't work in his favor, but it was a smart move.

Great stuff by BB!!! Also an interesting note that BB worked out CJ before the draft a few years back, and was thought to be real close to drafting him before the bengals snagged him at the beggining of the 2nd round! It's obvious that BB thinks highly of him

BB and #37 sound as though they respect Chad as much as they should, interestingly they do not go over the line and sound stupid. But I expect this from this team and these players.
