Obviously, sports betting is illegal. But if it were legal and if i participated in it, then I would have to bet the Steelers tonight.

The lines have moved towards Miami this week, obviously due mostly to Roethlisberger's appendectomy. ('Ectomy' is just not a nice ending to any word, is it?)

But when Miami could only squeak past our second string in Week 16, 2005, and when the Steelers managed to win the Superbowl despite more or less a no-show from Roethlisberger, the value is with the home team here.

Also please do try and remember that the person who QB'd the dolphins last year is gone, and the 2 guys who threw passes in the super bowl are gone. (randle el is a redskin and Ben is on his back)

Given that it's in Pit. and the Steelers are the defending SB champs, I still have to go with the Steelers. Ben or no Ben, anyone that doesn't favor the defending SB champs at home their first game is crazy.

I am not going anywhere near that action, but I will have to say this:

If Miami can't beat Pitt when they are without Ben and Ward may not even play than they are pathetic. Pitt minus those two are an average team, if that good.

It is legal to bet on sports here, and I have an accumulator running on this week's schedule - with bets on five games - but have opted out of the Steelers/Dolphins game as too close to call. I had Steelers as a lock before Big Ben's op, but can too easily see how the Fins get a result to get involved in this game (but are too short odds to back).

So, OldEnglandPatriot, my advice to you would be to hang on to Sunday and find a different game to back.

Just covering my back ironwasp, wink wink. If I DID bet, I would have had a rather good 2005 season.

I agree this isn't a great betting game - few are on an opening weekend - but I do think that the Steelers represent a smidgeon of value, and I can't quite resist a bet on the curtain-raiser.

I'm probably clouded a little by wanting to see the extraordinary pre-season hype over the fish punctured a bit. Losing to a Roethlisbergerless Steelers should do it!

For what its worth, my advice to you is to steer clear of accumulators. But we all have our preferences.

Listen anyone who picks the Steelers to win tonight is dumb. They are an average to poor offense with a great D. The Dolphins have a good offense with a good defense, the only problem with the dolphins is there o line is crappy.

Dumb? That's a bit uncalled for. I fully accept that the Dolphins have a fair chance of winning this game. But I think being able to back the defending champions at home, giving up more or less nothing, is good value.

I'm surprised though, that you think a 'good' offense that has a 'crappy' offensive line, is absolutely certain to prevail against a 'great' defense.
