this is football not a baseball waiver system. Branch is under contract for about 1 mil. we have so much room under the cap there is no financial impact. this would be a trade, not waiver.

Gee, Professor Clayton, what was that about the deal getting done and Branch was going to be a Patriot?

the only way I see that working for us is a number 1 reciever in return. Dont expect other teams with that price or a number 1 pick to bite so kinda like when they put Manny on waivers no takers and he will be on the field against the Bills.

Brillant! (Channeling the Guniess Guys)

Everyones roster is already set, no way anyone offers him anything close to what he is asking for, in addition to the first round pick that the Pats are going to demand for a Superbowl MVP.

This gives him a week to workout a deal, and then when he can't he has nothing but losing money and holding out.
Without a new contract and with the fines intact.

Of course the Titans might make an offer, because they can't seem to get their WR on the field, his name escapes me.....

Thumbs up Lelie had to pay Denver almost $1million to leave

I would assume that Branch would need to fork over whatever prorated bonus money to the Pats if he were to leave. Lelie had to pay Denver according to various news sources.

I also think this is the "get in" or "get out" ultimatum to Branch & his agent.

It will force his hand and squarely puts the burden on him to prove that he's worth what he thinks he is.

I think this is spot on!

Interesting to me that they have given the permission only for one week. Perhaps they are saying to Mr Chayut, "your employer can't seem to get you to do your job, so let's see if we can help. you've got one week to do some negotiating and find out how much your client is really worth. let us know what you find out." While this is surprising, it's a good move by the Pats. Both parties now can find out what he's worth on the market. They are not obligated to make a trade even if the agent finds something.

Let's not forget, two things have to happen. The trade team has to come up with a contract that Deion likes and accepts, and THEN they have to come up with a trade package that we like and accept. Remember the situation with Abraham and the Jests, he had a done deal with somebody (Seahawks?) but the Jests didn't like the trade so they refused.

I agree...the squeeze...SO Mr Branch you are worth how much?? Seek a trade then my friend...see what your value is?? I agree this really puts all the onus on The Twig..you have a week to get a trade done IF you really wish out of here...if you wish to stay?? Get you act together and get into camp...NO fence sitting.. This certainly forces the whole situation..Can't keep mouthing off in the press what he wants..LOVE IT!! My question is, what becomes of the fines?? He pays the Patriots as well??
