Talking Bruschi continues to welcome Maroney to the NFL

Day 2
Posted by: Albert Breer

A few nuggets from the morning session on Day 2 of training camp, with blue skies overhead and temperatures soaring at the upper practice field off Gillette Stadium:

– The highlight of practice came from first-round pick Laurence Maroney. Known for his ability to cut on a dime and burst forward as a Minnesota Golden Gopher, Maroney put that skill on display on a stretch play during a full-squad scrimmage. Maroney took the handoff from Tom Brady left, headed for the edge, found a seam, cut back and exploded through the first two levels of the defense and into the open field. The play elicited the biggest pop of the morning from the crowd and showed a little of why New England was so willing to spend the 21st overall pick on Maroney.

– That said, Maroney took lumps again and, again, they came courtesy of Tedy Bruschi. For the second straight day, Bruschi filled on Maroney and let loose a hard shoulder right into Maroney for the day’s hardest hit. After practice, Maroney joked that Bruschi’s got it out for him.
Welcome to the NFL, Maroney! And keep up the good work.

I like how Breer (who has been doing some decent reporting as Riess' replacement) has been added on to the blog. Tomase gets an occasional golf clap for some nice blog notes, but a little more energy here would be nice and I'm hopeful Breer brings that energy.

It makes you wonder why a guard isn't getting on Bruschi? Is he fighting them off or just getting too much respect?

``The officials now are evaluating the players and their performance, I mean, that's great,'' Belichick deadpanned. ``I can't say how much that means to me, really.''

Probably a combination of both. Bruschi definitely knows how to shed bigger players.

Tedy routinely beats OL in full speed confrontations, a half speed drill is a cake walk for him.
