Default Scott Benson's terrific preseason thoughts

BSMW has a series, Game Day Rear View, which I've always enjoyed reading. They've started a new series and Scott Benson (of Scott's Shots?) writes a wonderfully entertaining article on the offense. Scroll down for his Offensive Preview.

Greg's defensive notes above it are also good and just as insightful, but Scott's writing is witty and entertaining.

Go to http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/gameday/ and enjoy.

One note: he expects the Pats will let Graham go to FA. I disagree. I think BB allocates a certain amount of dough to each position, he values TE's highly, and he's got Watson and Thomas on long-term rookie contracts, so he can afford to put a few bucks of cap space on Graham. If he was willing to pay Fauria to ride the bench, he'll be willing to pay Graham a lot more to start.

"Most people seemed to think the Pats would move on a veteran quarterback when Our Doug retired this spring (after 63 memorable years in the game), but so far, no dice. "

Excellent ...

Default Re: Scott Benson's terrific preseason thoughts

Benson is the best overall read I've had in eons. Great find.

This was my favorite quip:

"Quarterbacks: Hey! That’s Tom Brady!

I’m no more objective than Josh, frankly. So here’s your preview – Tom Brady is the friggin’ quarterback. Beat that."

And I agree with his assessment of the backup plan:

"So, ladies and gentlemen, I say to you…….Matt Cassel…..why the hell not?"

Unfortunately he and I are also simpatico where our change of pace RB's are concerned, particularly:

"Kough It Up Kevin lost me – perhaps his most ardent defender - in Denver. The Patriots were grinding upfield with the lead and the ball and I was just turning to my wife to say ‘they have them’ when Faulk laid his most prodigious of eggs. You know what happened after that. I will forever believe it was all the inevitable consequence of the Worst Possible Thing at the Worst Possible Time."

We know he'll stick for another season, but.....
