Lightbulb Belichick on Burgess: 'We Expect Him To Be Here'

Ian's Daily Blog - Despite reports on Derrick Burgess apparently contemplating retirement, it appears that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick still expects him to report at some point.

Ian, what's the deal with all the question marks in your blog-to-topic posts? Am I the only one seeing it that way?

Burgess needs to get in or out. Can't hold a spot for him forever.

BB seems blindsided by this development. Not a good situation. Hope he still has Crable's cellphone #.

Those are caused by Microsoft word quotes, apostrophes, etc. - the rss feed thing parses it wrong and question marks are in their places - it's aggravating.

I have to manually fix them each time, and I've looked but there's no fix for it.

I am beginning to think Favre has started a trend. I think players are starting to use the retirement card to stay away from camp. Look at Aaron Schobel. He skipped the entire offseason and camp so far under the guise of retirement considerations. Now word is he is looking for rental property in Buffalo although he still hasn't decided.

Burgess missed training camp last year because of a hold out and I am beginning to wonder if he is doing this to miss two a days this preseason.

I see two ways to read that.

1) he expects at some point he will be here

or

2) He should be here now....I expect him to be here .......he is not end of conversation.

I was thinking the same thing but then thought about how BB would see right through it. Weather he could do anything about it is another matter.

Well, he could fine Burgess for every day he isn't here. Burgess is under contract. Belichick might allow him to get away with it for a period though. He has been generous with time for older veterans in the past. He never pressured Seau to rush to camp and sign. He let Phifer have a flexible schedule to see his kid in Cali.

You can generally get around that problem by 1) removing the MSW formatting from the title, and/or 2) using a different font, one that is compatible with the RSS feed.

Not sure if it will work, or if you've already tried that, but those are the likely culprits. Good luck.

Yah but that was collusion between BB and the vets. Looks like this MIA caught BB by surprise.
