Default OT: Football games in 3D...BE EXCITED

I just got back from BestBuy where they had a 55" Sony 3D TV on display.

They have an option to watch everything from Sports to Movies to PlayStation 3 games.

They played OSU vs USC in 3D for me. I was blown away! It's as if you have 50 yard seats and you're part of the crowd. Football looks great in 3D, although for some reason the Soccer game they showed me didn't look nearly as good. I'm assuming its because soccer games are zoomed out alot more while football is close up. The OSU vs USC game felt like I had the field right in front of me. It looks much better than regular HD. You can see the distance of a missed tackle, the openings in the OLine, much clearer and realistic than ever before.

I can't wait to see a Pats game in 3D. I was skeptical about 3D TV's and how sports would look on them. Now I'm sold. ESPN already has the first 3D channel, and I'm sure by 2011, every major channel will have a 3D station out so it's only a matter of time before football games are in 3D.

Do yourself a favor and go to your local BestBuy to check this technology out. I definitely was not disappointed. Whether you like it or not, 3D is going to be a huge part of the future. Just thought Id share that with everyone and give you something to look forward to as there won't be much news these next few weeks

Gah, 3D.

I keep praying this doesn't catch on, but it just keeps getting more and more popular/mainstream.

The reason being, i can't see out of my right eye, and thus can't see in 3D.

The only good thing about 3DTV becoming mainstream, is the rest of us that don't care, can get a shiny brand-new non-3D flat panel TV for pennies on the dollar.

So I say let it become popular!

I like how people judge things without even giving it a chance! You dont care because you havn't seen a football game in 3D yet.

Once you do, you will change your mind. trust me. I wasnt crazy about 3D either. Once they played that OSU vs USC game in 3D for me, I was converted lol

Oh yes it does have its benefits. For example the 2D showings of films are always empty

Pardon my stupid questions:

1) Does it have that stupid short/wide aspect ratio of HDTVs? That's the main reason I'm avoiding HDTV till I no longer have a choice. I don't care how clear or realistic a picture is if on closeups it cuts off the tops of the heads and chins of actors to show a lot of dead (but pretty) space on the sides.

2) Do you have to wear any glasses or anything like that to get the effect?

3) Is it highly position specific? Did you have to stand/sit a specific distance from the TV, or not move much from perpendicular to keep the effect?

Thanks

Well the prices for these TV's are still exorbitant. Once the prices go down, I have a feeling that the vast majority of people will be owning these things. I'll most certainly be one of them.

Wait. So you prefer that 4x3 aspect for football where you can;t even see the wide receivers or dbacks on any given play because they are off screen?

Holy crap, if HD TV was tailor made for anything it was for live football.

I don't know about 3D, but if you haven't taken a liking to HD I don't know what to say.

Does anyone in here really want to feel like Rex Ryan is in your living room?

I don't

Especially if a fresh new bag of Doritos is next to you
