This was from last week. Still a longshot to make the roster, but interesting nevertheless.

Buddy Farnham appears to be turning into a jack of all trades.
The wide receiver from Brown, an invitee to the Patriots’ rookie minicamp who earned himself a contract with the team, was lining up at cornerback and fielding punts from fifth-round draft pick Zoltan Mesko and rookie free agent David King on Wednesday.

It's going to be a sad, sad day if Buddy Farnham ever plays a down at cornerback. How many top draft picks have we used on the secondary in recent years? I feel the same way if I ever see him on the field for receiver or a KR too.

This is absolutely not a sad thing. We signed this guy as an undrafted free agent and if he is proving to be this versatile then that is only more than anyone expected out of him. It is not a bad thing at all to have a little more depth at the cornerback position or KR. How about Troy Brown who played a little cornerback? Troy Brown was picked in the 8th round back in 1993 (which is almost undrafted) and he helped us win 3 super bowls. Farnham most likely will not play any cornerback because we did pick up a bunch of cornerbacks early on. Just because someone wasn't a high draft pick doesn't mean they are not a talented player that shouldn't see the field. I am pumped if this guy turns into something.

I'm sure someone said that about Troy too.. not that I would ever attempt to compare the two

I think the point was that in the last three years, BB has invested a first round pick, 2 seconds, and a fourth rounder on cornerbacks, plus handed Bodden a significant extension. What does it say about BB's evaluation skills at CB if Farnham actually plays CB in a game?
Not the same as Troy at all. Troy was an veteran all-pro WR. His draft status was irrelevant in 2004.

But it wouldn't indicate anything about those draft choices, it would be in the event of an emergency.
Lets say Farnham made the team as a KR, and can also play corner and WR. In the event that we have numerous injuries at thiose positions, we have a guy to go in for an emergency who has a clue what to do.
Rare circumatance, but its the same thing we did with Slater, and just like the take a safety then kick deep strategy, someday we will win a game because BB planned for the rarest of circumstances.

It's going to be a sad, sad day if a 7th round QB from Kent St ever plays reciever for us. I mean after Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson.

Ok, so instead of Farnam be a solid contributor in several positions you'd rather him get cut because it might make BB look like less of a god, even though it was his evaluation that led to Farnam being signed in the first place?
The more solid players on the team the better, I don't give a crap if they're the #1 pick or a UDFA.

Farnham must be damn good but yeah I understand Belichick has invested a good amount into the position which hopefully will pay off for future seasons. On another note Miami's corner duo has the potential to become the best tandem in the league come the next couple seasons.
