Dinner with Bill Belichick - New England Patriots Forums

The annual Dinner with the Head Coach throw Extra Points program was tuesday and we once again attened. As always the event was awsome.

Started with a good steak and some rediculously rich chocalate moose.

Then you get a chance to shake hands with the coach and get an autograph and picture.

I had him sign my SB39 ticket.

My father had him sign a pylon that was used on the field during SB38.

BB joked that he had signed a lot of things but this is the first time he is signing a Pylon.

After everyones gets there pics and autographs he speaks for a little about the team and goings on since the offseason and then he turns it over for questions.

I asked him about the knew overtime rules and if he could get into some of the strategies involved.

He joked that even he doesn't know the rule yet. But than got into some interesting stuff about how it will be weird and that there will likely be more varying philosophies than normal and that it might take some time for a consistant approach to formulate.

I was hoping to get him to talk about the odd dynamics of when to go for it on fourth down if you have first possesion but instead he discussed the odd dynamics of wether you even want the ball first or if you trust your team to defend 75 yards for a chance at possesion. In the end he said he still has some time to formulate his strategies. very interesting.

I also was able to get a second question though I regret the way I phrased. I asked him if he could give any kind of stories for other players the way he did with Bru at his retirement speech. Well I shouldn't have said Bru's name because that sent him off talking about Teddy and how special a day that was to him (BB). It was cool to hear him talk about how much Teddy means to him and the Patriots but there wasn't much that wasn't said at the retirement ceremony.

After BB you get some bonus coverage and you get a speech by Andre Tippet which is equally as entertaining.

I asked him if he has any friends on the team that he does Martial Arts with and he said he didn't think anyone was really into it. He said he thought there was one player who was into it as a kid but not really anymore. He did mention how it helped his game and I asked him to elaborate on that and he joked I couldn't really tell you I would have to show you and I tried to goad him into showing but he didn't.

I am writing this quick at work (well not as quick as I should have but...) so I am sure I left some good stuff out and as I think of things I will add to the thread.

Also my father will likely add something in here as well.

That's great, and thanks for taking the time to post. I love it when great fans get to experience the team from up close (yes, even Patjew

) and there's something about the drip, drip, drip of media denigration that means I need reminding that Bill Belichick is not an Evil Demon.

PWP: Just great SBB. The NFL fines guys for taking out a sharpie and signing goalposts, pylons & stuff. You'll get BB fined and we'll lose another pick!

My dad also has a 3 foot sculpture of BB made by an artist who does foil art. We have joked about bringing that in for him to sign but we don't want to freak him out I think the Pylon was odd enough (certainly one of the pops best memrobilia).

For whatever reason nothing else from Bill has popped in my mind but man was Tipp fun too.

He was real passionate talking about the Hall and how honered he is to be in there and joked that people tell him all the time that it was long awaited and he joked he tells them that it was perfect and only made it sweeter and that to complain would be an insult to the process and the guys in the hall.

Went on to talk about the thousands who have played and that only 260 or so are hall of famers and only 150 or so are still alive.

Continued to joke that now being a part he doesn't intend on missing the event as long as he is alive and that he has a deal with his son to wheel him there if need be.

Tipp talked very highly of Bruschi saying he would have loved to play with him and that more than any player he didn't play with he would have loved to play with Teddy. He also said Tom was pretty good too and he wouldn't mind playing with him.

He talked about what when wrong with Ernie Simms and how he was shocked about the I play on sundays comment and that he knew Ernie wouldn't endear him to the fans around here with a comment like that. Said that he was quite an athlete but that his attitude and injuries likely derailed his career.

Well when I think of some more BB stuff I will add it. I am sure there is plenty of good stuff I left out but just not coming to the front of the brain.
