One of the reasons Brady took less on his contract last time was to leave money for other players. If the Patriots let Mankins go,why would Brady give them a discount? Who is more important to a qb than Mankins?Kraft is cheap, that is the real reason.
Kraft has nothing to do with the negotiations. When will you get that through your thick skull?? The negotiations are being handled by Reese and Caserio. Do they have a budget. Yep. My guess is that they are holding themselves to the salary cap even though it's not in affect.

You can choose to believe that the Kraft's have nothing to do with any negotiations. I suggest that they will definitely be part of the Brady negotiations. You are simply a fool if you believe that the Kraft's did not discuss the Bledsoe negotiations with the personnel folks.

Mankins is good, but he isn't Superman. Everytime I think we can't do without him, I remember Justin Tuck in the SB tossing him behind Tommy. Let's see, is it Fanica, or Fanaca, Faneca----Don't we have 2 #1's next yr?

``The officials now are evaluating the players and their performance, I mean, that's great,'' Belichick deadpanned. ``I can't say how much that means to me, really.''

Yep. At least one of them should be used on O-Line, IMO.

the pats are currently far below what would have been the cap this year, and are positioned to be far below anything that will be agreed to in the future.....and getting mankins extended would not upset that balance
Ian's Daily Blog - Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England reports that on Sunday Patriots owner Robert Kraft said the team is working to get a deal done with guard Logan Mankins, but apparently the two sides are quite far apart. According to Curran Frank Bauer, Mankins’ agent, told him the two sides aren’t even close, and that Mankins [...]
I wish he had gotten "So MAD he couldn't see straight" during the 2007 SB.....when instead he blocked like Liberace out there...and then the day after the loss was joking about getting his beard cut off by Matt light.....where was that anger then Logan?...this guy needs to shut it...

That was a long time ago...and things have changed here in the decade since and you know it. Their involvement these days is limited to talking guys up and doing the feel good stroking BB cannot do. They get involved in ownership level decisions on the same level any ownership would, setting an overall operating budget, trading a superstar for draft picks, signing a big ticket FA with baggage, committing to a mega guaranteed deal like your HOF QB requires. The don't sit in on the negotiations or set the parameters for deals within the budget on any deals. They may let Bill know they are willing or unwilling to change that overall budget to get a deal done, but they leave it up to Bill and his FO personnel to decide how the budget will actually be implemented.
