Default OT: Alex Brown released by Bears

Peppers signing makes him obsolete in Chicago and NFL LIVE just reported they are looking to trade/release him. He is more of a 4-3 DE, but I have always loved his pass rushing skills and I'd find a place for him in the Green role. Anyone else??

Brown signed another two-year, $15.5 million extension on 2/18/2008, which included $5 million up front. 2010: $5 million, 2011: $5.5 million, 2012: Free Agent

Would remove the need to bring back Burgess really, and would fill the role Green played in years past like you said.

Wouldn't really be a viable starter in the 3-4 though, so we'd still be looking for a more stout RE.

Yes, but this becomes irrelevant when he gets cut.

I don't think he has a role in this defense.

Unless he could make the transition to OLB, he wouldn't do much good for the team. However,we could sign him to a 1-2 yr deal, bring him into camp and give him a look. If he seems like he could contribute, keep him. If he struggles, cut him. It's an uncapped year, so no harm, no foul.

Could he convert to OLB? Even after his injury we had some pretty good success with another former Bears DE in Colvin.

He may be the best pure pass rushing DE/OLB available. I dont think he is an every down player, but I certainly think he can play the elephant as big Willy did on passing downs. He is a tweener in this defense but how can you pass up that kind of pass rusher??

But Colvin was a LB for Chicago not a DE

which hasn't happened.

so, I guess the assumption is that he will be cut, and then get a better offer from the pats to be a ptp'er than he'll get from other teams.
