Default Is there a need for a fullback on this year's team?

Does this team have a need for another fullback that we didn't have in 2009?

Sammy Morris tried playing the position for a few times last season but was gobbled up and spit out by linebackers, maybe time for another big bruiser via a cheap FA or a late draft pick?

In FA - Maybe a Justin Griffith or Terelle Smith or even Eckel back?

Or in the Draft in the 6th or 7th for a Manase Toga or Willie Rose?

Yes, there is a need.
No, belichick does not see that need.
The chances of a late round rookie making the team as a fullback are nil.

maroney is at he's best with a FB leading the way. but it's kinda hard to use a FB when your in shotgun 90% of the time lol

Is he? Did he run behind a FB at Minn? He sure hasn't with the Pats except for short yardage situations.

That’s what we always do, and I think the last nine years we’ve put a pretty competitive team out there on the field every year. I think that’s how you do it – you get good football players. Sometimes they are not always at the No. 1 position, but I don’t think you pass up good football players to get the guys who aren’t as good just because they’re at a position that somebody feels you need.”

I feel we suffered immensely when we lost Evans to the Saints. He was a pure fullback and a very good one at that because he thought like a RB and seemed to always get the key stone or block.

We have tried everyone from Morris, BJGE, to Connolly, and haven't found anything that really clicks. Using BJGE as a FB is in my opinion a gross misuse of his talent.

i rember maroney, haveing a few nice game with Evans at FB. im not saying a lead blocker will turn maroney in to a all pro. but it would be nice to see the pats run something other then shotgun

Some would say that we haven't had a fullback in years (since Evans), and that THEREFORE it clearly a need. Personally, there is zero question in my mind. A fullback (who can block, catch and play STs) is worth more than a #5 running back.

Also a good solid bruising Fullback assigned for mainly his blocking ability lessens the teams need for a big blocking TE and maybe look more for some TEs with pass catching skills.

I think this years team with the current sorry depth at WR screams that its about time to use the TE in pass situations more and use the fullback out of the backfield if he can play with some Faulk-like duties with catching as well.
