Have any of these people never listened to Marshall Faulk, Tom Jackson, or any of the media opinions regarding the Pats and spygate in the immediate twelve months after the story first broke? Where does the idea that the media gave the Pats a pass on spygate come from?

I think Cowher is an attention hog who sells his brand. The jaw jutting out, the spittle, etc. It's all part of the show. I think the man who replaced him in Pittsburgh is far more respectable. I think it's nice Cowher said positive things about BB or the Patriots, but I don't let that change my opinion of the guy.
Normally I'm the first to call the forum out on it's fickle ability to insult a guy when he says bad things about the team and love him when he says good things about the team, but this is not the case. I've always had a lot of respect for Cowher as a head coach as (I know) a lot of other people here have. He's a class act. IMO, if we didn't have BB, Cowher is the #1 choice for who I would want running the team.

In what way did playing against the Patriots make the Steelers have to draft a franchise quarterback because they weren't getting it done with Tommy Maddox?

Your point is valid, to an extent, with Dungy and the Colts. But not at all with the Steelers.

The idea that actually listening to what people actually say will actually tell you what they actually said is clearly false.

Just listen to any political ad.

I beg to differ. The Steelers of the early part of this decade were a pretty arrogant group and he fed that beast for quite some time. But after getting schooled by a team whose HC stressed staying humble and playing with discipline and and a young QB managing the game, the Steelers began to move away from the blowhards and the gimicks and the endless, sputtering excuses... I guess the Kordell Stewart era was before your time.. Maddox was an interim improvement, albeit a fragile one. More of a bridge to their own franchise QB once again, something Cowher realized he needed to compete with BB. And this one was managed conservatively though his early years. Cowher realized to beat Belichick he had to become more like him, more demanding and disciplined as a HC and his teams had to reflect and respect that. He stopped making excuses. I think he left in part after 2006 because he had his qualms about maintaining that given the emerging headstrong nature of his own young QB.

I started watching football in 1995 so no, the Kordell Stewart era was not before my time. Hell, the Neil O'Donnell era wasn't even before my time. As for your "humble pie" argument, I don't suppose it would do me any good to poke holes in it by bringing up Joey Porter's big mouth against the Colts and Seahawks the very year they won the Super Bowl, would it? Cowher didn't change much as a head coach. The little bit that he did sure as hell wasn't because of us. And when you say that Cowher needed a franchise quarterback to compete with BB, it sounds pretty ridiculous to put it lightly. Cowher needed a franchise quarterback to win (because Maddox was not an improvement over anyone except for maybe Rex Grossman) and to ultimately save his job in the long run. Competing with Bill Belichick had absolutely nothing to do with it. I suspect that Steeler fans have just effectively pissed themselves in laughter reading this post.

Well I'd say the title of team of the decade has been locked up nicely now.

Pats
Steelers
Lions
Colts

Hey Peyton, how does my yarmulke taste???
