Default First ever Tape Delayed Superbowl.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

Quote:
The delay, according to ABC, is the first-ever in the 40-year history of the Super Bowl.

While ABC confirmed the broadcast delay, network officials who could explain when the decision was made and why were not immediately available, an ABC spokeswoman said Friday.
...
The decision drew immediate praise from the Parents Television Council, a media watchdog group. The halftime show this year features the Rolling Stones.

"ABC has wisely decided to ensure that this year's Super Bowl is not hijacked by raunchy performers as it was in 2004," said L. Brent Bozell, PTC president. "Now, we hope that millions of families can safely watch this family program without the worry of seeing inappropriate sexual content or hearing vulgar language."
Wonder how far they're going to take it? Y'know how quite often the camera shows the coach or player on the sideline, upset about something, and catches them in the inevitable lip-reading moment dropping the F-bomb or whatnot. Wonder if they're going to kick in the delay to avoid such things.

Is the entire game going to be tape delayed, or just the halftime performance?

Default Thank goodness for that!

Imagine an innocent young person catching sight of Mick's nipple -- the consequences for civilisation hardly bear thinking about ...

No raunchy performers? Does that mean the NFL and ABC have stopped accepting money from advertisers like that .com and the beer commercials? No Victoria's Secret? Are they going to allow the scantily clad cheerleaders on the field? Have they tossed all of the groupies and escorts out of Detroit already?

That sucks. Another freedom taken away. I guess parents would rather their kids watch Itchy and Scratchy chop each other up on the Simpsons.

I did notice a delay on the MNF broadcast. About 5 seconds.

I was listening to the radio while watching. The radio broadcast announce the paly before it happened on TV.

Do you have DirecTV ? That's always a few seconds behind presumably because of all the bouncing around the signal does to get to your house (up to the DirecTV satellite, back down to yours). It's like that for all sporting events.

No, I have basic cable. Gil & Gino had called the play and then I watched what they said happened. It drove me nuts so I shut the radio off.

I know! I miss being able to watch the away games with Gil and Gino on the radio at the same time. The delay seems unnecessary, never used to be that way.

If you were watching the broadcast in HD there is generally a slight delay.
