When Vollmer comes back, Kazur is out and probably Vollmer plays RT. Id like to see him at LT protecting Bradys blindside but Lights been a LT all his career, tough to move to RT now
Maybe Neal was banged up but still better than Connolly. I really think Neal is vital to the O-Line even though he gets banged up a lot.

I agree with Jaws. This OL seems to wear down and I'm beginning to wonder whether that's at the heart of our second half woes. I think Vollmer coming back will help but there was pressure up the middle too which Vollmer will not help with. Maybe they need to rotate some of these guys in and out to give them a blow because they are consistently looking overmatched as the game wears on. Being forced into a pass only mode doesn't help either but you should be able to protect against 3-4 man rushes, and we're not talking Freeney-Mathis here either.

The defense was exposed for what it is. Adequate against adequate competition but incapable of slowing down the likes of Manning or Brees. Kudos to Brees though. He was a stud all game.

I disagree that playcalling is the problem though. You can only do so much when a 3-4 man rush is enough to pressure TB. That leaves 3-4 LBs to cover all of the short stuff with the safeties double-covering downfield. That's why Welker had so few yards after the catch.

Of course hes better than Connolly, thats why Neal starts....

Neal is vital to the OL, just as the rest of the starters...(well maybe, not Kazur)

We could have Oher in the draft and passed on him only to see him perform nicely with Baltimore!

I meant Neal playing hurt is better than a fresh Connolly. After he got hurt, the O-Line got worse..

This game on the offensive side was way too eerily similar to how we got stuffed in the 07 Superbowl.

Teams scouted us and knew our favorite tendencies, and stuffed them.

Welker had 6 catches for only 30 yards. That pretty much tells you how predictable we were to the opposing defense.

Don't go saying the Saints D-line was unstoppable or that their secondary was elite, the problems are with offensive play calling.
The playcalling was nowhere near good, I'll grant you that. But neither was the protection for Brady. He was getting hit damn near every time he dropped back. The killer was the pressure the Saints were getting up the middle. The last time I can remember seeing Brady rush that many throws was in Super Bowl XLII. Oh, and the defense also lost the game more than the playcalling did. All in all, here is who I would blame for the loss... in order:

1. O-Line failing to protect Brady.
2. Defense sucking badly.
3. Predictable playcalling on offense.

This post pretty much supports my point even more.

People need to stop thinking that shotgun automatically gives you more time and comfort to pass. It make it VERY EASY for the d-ends, corners, and safeties to not even have to worry about the run and play pass all the way. This dramatically improves a pass rush, no matter how good your O-line is. The talent on O-line is way better than what we ever had from 01-04, it's the scheme and predictable play calls that are the problem.

He's right. And it's been all season with no improvement. If they don't spin right pass them then they are pushing them into Brady. You didn't see that happening to Brees.

We could probably do our O-line a favor by not going to 95% passing out of shotgun every play in the second half. As has been mentioned, these guys are basically #2's out there now, and Kazur downright sucks.

Defending the pass rush every down is hard enough with a solid O-line, and this line is anything but "solid". The D's are just teeing off we 3 and 4 man fronts. They don't even need to blitz and they are still getting better.

I think that O'Brien doesn't have a clue on how to call for THIS team as a whole. Sure, Brady is super passer and can make every throw if he has time, problem is, his O-line can't protect him like that every down. Run the effing ball some, it's easier on the line.

except Oher is getting beaten by good pass rushers as well. getting oher wouldn't have helped us this year. I used to think Oher was good. now i'm not so sure. maybe because he's just a rookie.
