Default Patriots and Colts reverse rivalry roles from 2001-2009

1. One team used to have the sexy prolific offense which shot itself in the foot in big games, and got stopped in key moments when they needed to score or get a key conversion. The fans of the team were always convinced they out-played the opponent despite losing, and still thought they were the better team.

2. The other team knew how to stay around even when being outplayed, did not make mistakes that killed them, and made the key offensive and defensive plays that won the games. The team also battled adversity, whether it be injuries or using inexperienced players on offense or defense.

From 2001-2005, team 1 was the Colts and team 2 were the Patriots. Somewhere along the line, the teams have completely flipped in terms of character/personality, and from 05-09 the Colts have won 5 out of our last 6 matchups. Manning is in Belichick's head, a reverse from 01-05.

Maverick4,

Nobody cares. Your comparison has been made a thousand times before and it will be made a thousand times again.

Your conclusions are not clever. Your conclusions are not original. Your conclusions are not even accurate.

What are you hoping to gain from this thread?

Everything except Supberbowls won. In the end, that's all that really counts.

Except for 2006, the Colts are the same Colts all decade. They are a great regular season team that gets smacked in the mouth in the playoffs. The last two years, the Colts were one and done in the playoffs. Exactly how is that reversing the roles?

In fact, the Pats have been to the Super Bowl more recently than the Colts.

ok, but lets not forget that after 04, everytime we played the colts, we also played the refs...maybe tht has something do with it?

other than this last game, we really should have won last years game, and the AFCCG, and prob the reg season game in 06, but i dont remember it (if there even was one)

Maybe the lesson is as simple as this: good fortune evens out over time.

That's my reaction precisely.

Well, also that Brady has not been cowed by the Colts the way Manning was. I don't see Brady flipping his wig the way Manning used to.

The Patriots beat the Colts those years, but they also beat the Steelers twice.

Heck, the Patriots beating the Chargers ALLOWED the Colts to win it all.

Did the Colts do the Patriots any favors? I don't think so.

I'll agree that this is a similar thread to last night, but we can't ignore the fact the Colts have had the Pats number since the rule change in '04. The Pats are 2-5 against the Colts since Polian cried a river. Don't get me wrong, I'm not using that as an excuse, more like an observation. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Colts really aren't that good, they just are able to beat the Pats. Even though I don't like the Colts, their schedule is so weak, don't be shocked if they go 16-0.

We shoulda, we coulda... bottom line the Colts have our number now, have taken 5 of the last 6 meetings.
Also, the Pats overcame any sort of ref bias in the first half of the decade, and it's not the reason we lost or keep losing to them.
