Default Fatal Flaw: no real pass rusher

Sorry this team will not win a super bowl until they get a pure passrusher that teams gameplan against. Our corners are playing pretty good considering qb's have plenty of time to throw the ball. There were about 5 plays where brady threw a bad pass because he was nervous about the pass rush. Burgess and nincovich did not scare manning yesterday. Teams dont have to compensate for our dline. Imagine this team with a real paasrush presence on the edge? Instead are 4 man line should not even waste their breath on pasd plays, their rush is futile.

that's tully's job and he went down early playing special teams.

Lly has played above expectations, but teams dont go in obsessed with containing tully, nor do qbs hear footsteps when tully is out there.

Nice line.

Losing TBC obviously hurt, but you're right. We went into the season with the pass rush as our biggest defensive need, and it has burned us all season. It burned us against the Jets, it burned us against Denver, and it burned us against Indy ... we'd likely be 9-0 and in control of the AFC if we could get pressure on opposing QBs.

this where i think the pats should have just payed more money to get Greg Ellis here. All it would have took was another $1 million. instead we are stuck with burgess who is not an every down lineman.

Good posting. To me, this was the one glaring takeaway from this game. With the game on the line, Mathis was winning the one-on-one battle and changing the game on one end forcing Brady to throw early, but on the other end, the Pats had no answer and Manning had all day with 4-5 rushers. That was the difference.

YUP. This problem is of course magnified when the Pats are on the road. The reason you need to get Indy on the road is not because Manning can't play outside, but because Freeney and Mathis are shells of the players they are inside that dome.

I have been hesitant to say we'll go for a pass rushing because i wanted to see how the d-lineman panned out (pryor, brace) but i think it IS the biggest need going into the off season. The FA crop reads like a whos, who of football so BB could go that route, but if not i really want to see him go after one of those OLB you've been raving about.

i also think part of the reason why we didn't rush Manning is because the thought that he would just burn us. You can't be blitzing this guy on every down. not when you are on the road in Indy.

I was about to post the same thing. As the game moves to its final stages, quarterbacks get very comfortable in the pocket and figure out how to pick us apart. There is no pressure.
