Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?
I'm surprised to see the kneejerks are thus far outnumbered in this thread.
Maroney may be or not be a lot of things, bit one isn't a fumbler. The replay clearly showed the fumble was the result of a tremendous hit by a no name, backup Colts player. It wasn't the result of carelessness on the RB's part. Had Taylor or Morris or even Dillon been carrying that ball when his helmet hit it, they'd have lost it too. Had the shoe been on the other foot, we'd be hailing that player as a potential defensive star of the future...
That said I wish we could find a way to recommit to being a team who can impose our will on the ground. Especially against a team that has struggled to stop the run. The fact that we've been down 2 backs for most of the season and a third was puking at the time didn't help. No more old dogs looking for a ring. It worked ONCE. We haven't been able to replicate it in the 5 seasons since. Trying to without a FB has been even less successful. If we had that capacity on our final posession, and we played that down like it was 4th down territory from the first snap, Manning likely doesn't get his ball back. If Bill is determined to rely on this offense to be his best defense, it's gotta be a slam dunk.

This I agree with wholeheartedly. Keeping Evans would have been best of all, but Dave Thomas was doing well at the position. Trading Seymour for a 2011 1st made sense, but trading Thomas for a 2011 7th just seems like a waste.

Admittedly, this call MAY have cost us the game. Certainly, our odds were better at stopping the Colts from 70 yards away than 30 yards away.
But Maroney’s goal line fumble cost us the game, let there be no doubt about it.
Even if he doesn’t score (which he should have, except for the fact that the kid just does not know how to generate a hard forward push or at the very least bounce it outside and angle for the pylon)...
But if he does not score and just hangs onto the forking ball, we at least get 3 points and the 4th & 1 becomes a non-event because it is a two score game for Indy at that point with under 2 minutes to play.
Maroney is a bust. We all know it. He gives us fleeting moments of hope, but his fumble and his 31 yards on 13 carries as the FEATURE BACK of the offense in a game of GIGANTIC proportions just does not cut it. His four years in Foxboro DO NOT CUT IT!
Up to this point, for those four years, Maroney has basically just NOT helped us, but last night he HURT us and he potentially cost us home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
With all three of our losses in the conference, and two against teams we’ll be drawing straws against for playoff spots (Denver & Indy), last night’s loss was H-U-G-E!
And Maroney gets the goat horns.
Does anyone have Larry Johnson’s agent’s number handy?
We are no longer suprised when Maroney F's up!

If you're going to blame Maroney for the fumble, you should blame Brady just as much for his pick in the end zone.
Bradys interception wasn't guaranteed points.
He threw that ball from what, the 45? Maroney dropped the ball at the 2ish. The Colts could have stopped us if Brady didn't throw his pick but they weren't keeping at least 3 points off the board when Maroney dropped it.
I'm ready for him to have his hands cut off. He hits holes you could drive a bus through but when they aren't rare he rarely makes anything happen with his own talent.
Re: Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About Maroney’s Fumble?
The Maroney fumble did not cost the Pats the game. The Colts got no points off the turnover. The Colts' drive stalled and the Pats got the ball back on the Colts' 5 yard line on a 69 yard punt return by Welker and then scored two plays later.
Now where people who want to blame Maroney for this game's logic fails is that they fail to recognize that the incredible Welker punt return has about zero chance of happening if the Pats score instead of fumbling and the Pats kicked off to the Colts instead of how it played out. That means there are absolutely no guarantees that that the Pats would have scored a single point more in the game than they did and still could have lost 35-34.
I am tired of Pats fans blaming one player or play for a loss like this. The Pats defense gave up 17 points in the fourth quarter. The Pats wasted two timeouts unneccessarily on the last offensive drive. Belichick made a risky call that didn't pay off on fourth and 2. No one play or player cost the Pats this game. It is silly to suggest otherwise.

You don't post much but i remember your one of the biggest Maroney haters here, so theres definitely an agenda behind this. I can't remember the last time LOMO fumbled, and he wasn't the only one to turn the ball over.

This is just pure dumbness.. Maroney is the team's 4th best RB? What planet are you living on?
Maroney had 1 other fumble in his career during the regular season. Other than that, he's been money on taking care of the ball.
Instead of making things up, why don't you deal in reality.

Yes, but not from an angle that you could actually see what happened. All you saw was a blob that Maroney entered and then the ball magically being loose in the endzone.

I hate jerks like you who come out of the woodwork to pile onto Maroney.
The Patriots had the least fumbles in the NFL prior to last nights game - and none by Maroney.
You want to label him a bust because of his 1st fumble of the season 9 games in?
That makes you a bust. not him.
