Default “Classy” Broncos fined, lose draft pick over salary cap violation

I know that this is old news but if we are going to hear how great the Broncos are I wanted to bring it up.

Thursday, September 16, 2004

(09-16) 15:45 PDT NEW YORK (AP) --

The Denver Broncos have been fined $950,000 and will lose their third-round pick in next year's NFL draft for circumventing the salary cap between 1996-98.

The penalties were levied Thursday following an agreement involving the league, its union and the team.

The violations included agreements between the team and several players to defer salary payments with interest and an agreement not to waive a player before a certain date. Both raised issues with accounting for the salary cap.

In addition to the penalties against the team, the NFL said an agent for a former player agreed to donate $100,000 to charity. Neither the agent nor the player was identified.

cant beat em, cheat em

seems like the broncos should be stripped of any lombardi's during that time also... no different than when a 100-m sprinter gets busted and loses his world record... just like it never happened.

Why would you bring that up?

So there's a few Bronco fans here that are just here to cause trouble, that doesn't mean the whole franchise is classless.

In the end though, class doesn't matter, because the team holding the Lombardi Trophy is the only one that'll be happy.

And I think the winner of this game will be just that team....

Also...they were all minor violations, it's not like one of those were the difference in our Super Bowl championships

Which is not to say that any particular fan is...

The team was built on a qback who refused to sign with the team that drafted him, their winning years came via salary cap violation (aka cheating), and the face of the franchise (post Manning-lite) was a degenerate on roids.

Maybe it's thin air, but I think the whole team is classless.

AS part of the punishment, the NFL also made them wear those ugly uniforms for another 5 years
