Default Who is your Patriots MVP on Offense and Defense

Pick ONE player on offense and defense that you consider to be the MVP at the 1/2 way point.

My Picks for MVP on both sides are....

OFFENSE - Wes Welker - Who is better in the slot and on third and long situations and finds a way to get open when the QB is in trouble?...No one,Without Welker this team is NOT 6-2

DEFENSE - Brandon Meriweather - Either Brandon at safety is a good choice but I feel that Meriweather has been a true playmaker on defense and has played just about as well as any of the elite safeties out there as in Reed and Polamalu,Once Meriweather gets tackling down to a science which is his weakest point right now,we will put him right up there with those top 2 guys mentioned.

no question meriweather did well....but if anyone watched the game last night b/w the steelers and broncos, u KNOW that meriweather should NOT be mentioned in the same sentence as polamalu....not yet anyways

At this point Meriweather is nowhere near Polamalu

Polamalu has been a beast not only in last nights MNF game but some forget he practically took away the game clinching TD pass in the 1st game of the year against Tenn. when Collins had the pass to Britt absolutely stolen by an acrobatic catch by Troy.

No,I agree that Meriweather is not in the same league as Polamalu and tackling is a big part of that,Polamalu is a tackling machine while Brandon has struggled in that department, but if he can get that right and improve like he did when he was dropping certain INTs and now catching them, he will be a complete player.

I believe the question for those who just jump in without reading was

Who is your Patriots MVP on Offense and Defense

I'd go Mayo and Welker at this point.

In a team d and to a lesser extent team O... have to go with Meriweather on D, and Brady on O...

Most VALUABLE player ? Not who has shown the most so far in the year ?

Tom Brady is the most VALUABLE offensive player the NE Patriots have ever had. He is therefore the no-brainer choice for 09. If Welker goes down, the team becomes a solid team who is missing a key ingredient. If TFB goes down, all hell breaks loose.

Mayo is the most valuable defender. The DL is solid - even if Wilfork were to be unavailable. Sanders, McGowan, and Chung would be a decent unit without Merriweather.

All the players listed are very valuable and I'm glad they are on the team... but Brady and Mayo are the most valuable.

Maybe without Welker, this team is not 6-2... without Brady they might not be .500 !

Welker and McGowan.

Welker for obvious reasons, we're a way more potent offense with him.

McGowan leads the team in tackles, seems to have a knack popping the ball out, and brings an overall viscousness to the defense that we need. He's also been practice player of the week, and brings a good amt of versatility in being the hybrid LB/S that we hoped for in Tank Williams with his ability to cover the big TE's.

EDIT: Actually after reading Farn's post (#8) it certainly makes more sense to pick Brady, so I'm going with Brady and McGowan.
