I, too, believe this whole handshake business is way overblown. If you're a competitor, you're not in the best of moods at the very end of the game, so I can totally understand that a coach doesn't want to spend alot of time congratulating the other coach. Heck, if I was coaching and won the game, I would not expect the opposing coach to be in a great mood, so if he gave me a perfunctory handshake or even just trotted off the field without a post-game greeting, I would not take it personal. Just like Bill did against the Jets, once the sting of defeat has lessened, say a good word in the tunnel or give them a phone call that evening to offer congratulations. The media judges everything on what they see, which is not often the whole story.

Mangini went the scorched earth route, poached and raided and has been smouldering in his own ashes since.....
Yes, it was definitely different apporaches. Mangini was reportedly recruiting staff and players on the flight home from the playoff loss with Denver. I am sure that McDaniels extended Belichick the courtesy of asking his permission to recruit staff (I think Pioli took more current staff members than McDaniels while McDaniels took a lot of former ones). McDaniels also seemed to give Belichick the opportunity to resign guys like Gaffney before pouncing.

Mangini was a weasel who went behind Belichick's back. Everything McDaniels seems to be doing is to respect and honor his mentor including wearing the hoodie in tribute. Like or hate McDaniels as a coach, you cannot argue that he did Belichick wrong in any way.

When he first arrived in Denver I was skeptical admittedly, especially after the Cutler fiasco. But shortly after I began to see what he was trying to build. A team first attitude where no one individual is above anyone else, and Cutler definitely didn't fit the mold. This team is playing for one another and for their coach and that has translated to wins. I never really liked Belichek personally but I respect the hell out of him as did Shanahan, and he obviously took McD under his wing and showed him a lot. I hope their relationship doesn't sour like it did with Mangini, and maybe they will see each other in the post season. I also wanted to say for the most part a lot of you have been giving the Broncos respect , more so than other fans anyway. So props to you guys for that.
If you notice McDaniels is a class act when it comes to acknowledging his mentors. He could of left in 08 and left BB high and dry with a lot of responsibility but instead he rewarded Bill with his loyalty. What else can a Head Coach ask for? He gave BB a whole year to train a replacement which is fair and in return helped Josh to the next level.

On the other hand have you filthy Mangini who wasn't ready for a head coaching job. Still isn't evidently. Better yet takes one with a division rival and leaves BB to get a defensive coordinator unexpectantly. Oh by the way, BB hired Manginia as a ball boy when he was 23 and worked him through the sytem. Thanks for the loyalty Eric. Should of stayed on another year or two and maybe you would of got a bible of your own.

As far as BB being disloyal to Parcells? Think of it this way, Belichick was a defensive coordinator for Parcells for many years. He coached in 4 superbowls prior to becoming the Pats head coach. As far as I'm concerned he earned the right to choose any damn job he pleased.

Who said BB was disloyal to Parcells?

Nobody here. I was just thinking back to 2000 when a lot of writers and talking heads were claiming him to be a traitor.

Parcells could have knocked over 8 banks and stole kids' lunch money people still would have loved him. He could do no wrong and anyone who went against Parcells was a traitor.

That whole Parcells/BB dynamic was a weird one. Parcells hired BB on 3 seperate occasions and gave him opportunities and paid him well. BB worked his butt of for the guy and helped him win. So as it relates to loyalty, I say even-steven. BB had every right to be his own man and not be contractually rail-roaded into a job that he just didn't know what future would hold.
