Just answer this: If Belichick did the exact same thing, what would your reaction be? What do you think the reactions of fans around the NFL would be? I don't see anything wrong with this move, and I definitely get why the Steelers did it. In fact, IMO the only mistake that Tomlin made was in bothering to talk about it- he can announce the cuts whenever he damn well pleases, and doesn't have to answer to anyone. That said, I do see a little humor in how much differently it's being perceived simply because it's Tomlin doing it instead of Big Bad Belichick.

If the day to reveal them is Saturday ... seems they have the right to do what they want including cutting the players at the last hour. So the agents of these guys get to call teams and shop them?

honestly, i wouldn't really care and wouldn't devote an entire thread to it. sure, belichick would probably get the double standard treatment because he is characterized as an ultra-competitive, win-at-all-costs guy. But I don't think his internal motivation would be any different from Tomlin's in this case, both would probably want to treat their last cuts as humanely as possible, maximize the chances they could sign them to their own PS, and not put himself at a competitive disadvantage by releasing information earlier than necessary.

Ironically, BB purposefully goes out of his way to cut players early to give them the best chance possible to land on another team. Heck, at times he's showcased players he was going to cut in preseason games, just to help their chances. Remember what he did for John Lynch? Sure BB's a competitor, but not at the expense of common decency.... Apparently, that expense is not too high for Tomlin. Tomlin is the perfect representative for such a marvelous, clean and prosperous city.....

WTF did Tomlin do wrong? Not publicly announce his cuts? NOBODY in the entire league, including the Pats, have publicly announced their final cuts. If the Steelers are dirtbags for it, then so are 31 other teams. I don't like the Steelers either, but at least pick a reason that makes sense.

Fair enough, I don't disagree with any of that. If there's anything notable about it in this case, it's that Tomlin talked about it. For all we know, Belichick's likely doing the same thing, but if anyone asks him about it he'll just say "we're doing everything we can to help make the team better" or some other purposefully vague response.
I mean, damn, even Rex Ryan hasn't talked about it, and I'm pretty sure that guy calls a press conference everytime he takes a ****. Nothing wrong with Tomlin being open about it- just unusual, and therefore maybe (but probably not) worthy of discussion.

You're wrong here. BB makes cuts early, and makes no attempt at covering it up. Did you happen to notice that six Pats cuts were all known at one once today? In Pittsburg, just a few names are tickling out over time, even though all the cuts were already made. Pretty indicative of how each went down. If you disagree with that point, I really don't think we could have a real discustion on this subject. Sure, BB will cut just about any player for the good of the team, but he almost always does it early for the player's benefit.
The Steelers aren't dirtbags because they're heartless to the guys they cut. They are heartless to the guys they cut because they are dirtbags. With Shanahan gone, the Steeler's offensive line is now, by a huge margin, the dirtiest in the league. Tomlin's a punk, proving it with his comments during spygate... and their players follow suit, running their mouths as much as any teams in the league. Steelers ownership and FO might be good in many ways, but their coaches and their players are perfect representives of Pittsturd's population.
They also won a Lombardi and a Stanley Cup within 5 months of eachother.
Keep talking trash on Pittsburgh, though. At least you'll be educated and know that the city you are trashing is one of the greatest cities in the U.S.
