Worked for Bob Hayes and Jim Thorpe...doubt it would work for him though.

Dwain Chambers (British sprinter) tried out for NFL Europe camps in Tampa a few years ago, impressed scouts and signed a contract with Hamburg only for the league to shut down He went back to athletics after that.

Only world-class sprinters with some measureable success in NFL were Willie Gault and Renaldo Neiameiah.

I had to DVR this so that I got the numbers correct.

Usain Bolt is 6 foot 5 inches and 200 lbs.

#1 From Home plate to the pitchers mound it is 60 feet 6 inches.
By the time Usain Bolt goes the first 60 feet 6 inches his is going 26 mph.

#2 His last 40 yards in a race (At top speed) he does in 2.95 seconds.

#3 He runs the first 40 yards in 3.82 seconds.
(3% to 5% of the fastest football players going into the NFL draft run a 4.4)

The question is..... can he catch a football???
not only that - what happens when he goes over the middle and a safety clocks him? there's more to being a receiver than just running and catching the ball. the raiders always sign these fast guys who can't play WR.

There is this Bob Hayes who won a 100M GM who was just inducted into the Pro Football HOF too, better than Gault or Skeets.

found this info on another site. The OP didn't name the source. I imagine the "unofficial" times are from the pro-days.

"The NFL's fastest official 40 yard dash time was 4.25 seconds by cornerback Fabian Washington. Previous to electronic timing, Deion Sanders held the official record at 4.29 seconds. Here are some unofficial claims to players who have broken the 4.2 second mark. "

1. Ted Ginn Jr. (4.06)
2. Alexander Wright (4.09)
3. Michael Bennett (4.13)
4. Bo Jackson (4.14)
5. DeAngelo Hall (4.15)
6. Darrell Green (4.15)
7. Lavernaues Coles (4.16)
8. Deion Sanders (4.17)
9 Joey Galloway (4.18)
10. Ahman Green (4.19)
11. Laveranues Coles (4.2)
12. Don Beebe (4.21)
13. Donte Stallworth (4.22)
14. Ryan Dotson (4.24)
15. Michael Vick (4.25)
16. Randy Moss (4.25)
17. Willie Parker (4.23)
18. Devin Hester (4.24)
19. Champ Bailey (4.28)
20. Willis McGahee (4.28)
21. Stanford Routt (4.29)
22. Fabian Washington(4.29)
23. Reggie Bush (4.33)

Major oversight on my part. Good catch!

On a seperate note, Chris Johnson had the fastest 40-time at the 2008 combine (4.24)

Didn't Chris Johnson break the 4.2 mark?
