Default Are Law-Firm and McGowan playing their way onto this team?

Both players are looking good. I didn't really think they would be able to make the team (numbers game), but a dispassionate look and their both outplaying some of their competition. Thoughts?

McGowan - yes.

The human acronym - maybe. Three of the four top RBs have a history of injury issues. Taylor seems to have overcome his, but he's getting old for a RB. Having Law Firm there as a durable back in reserve (or more likely in place of a banged up back - i.e., Morris) might appeal to Belichick. I'm having a hard time seeing how 5 RBs make the squad though, since none of them are coverage-team studs, leaving those positions to guys on the other side of the ball.

McGowan, IMO, has a pretty clear path to the 53. He's been showing up with steady tackling on both defense and special teams, and a 4th safety who's a core special teamer is easy to carry. He's been one of the biggest pleasant surprises of camp to me.

Law Firm...eh. I can't see them carrying more than 4 RBs, so unless somebody else is injured he's just an odd man out. For all the announcers' oohing and ahhing, I saw a performance of 13 touches for 50 yards and a bad fumble. He'd be a perfectly respectable #4 RB, but is he really better than Morris?

McGowan, certainly.

BJGE, I still maintain he's a JAG and just about any UDFA could step in and give the same production. I'm pretty sure I could've racked up some yardage with those holes last nite.

BJGE put the ball on the ground last night....I do like him, but thats not a good thing when trying to make the 53.

I would agree. I've had McGowan pencilled in for the 53 man squad for a while now, and I think he's pretty much a lock as the #4 safety on the roster behind Meriweather, Chung and Sanders. He brings solid ST play, and as a backup safety he brings near-starter level of play. Can't see why we wouldn't want him on the team.

I also don't see us carrying more than 4 RBs, and I don't see where Law Firm fits. Plus, while he runs hard, I have yet to see him consistently perform against first team competition as opposed to scrubs. He was a nice practice squad addition last year. Doubt he makes it back to the PS if he gets cut, but unless someone gets hurt or traded I don't see how he makes it to the final 53.

Law Firm is on the outside looking in auditioning for a new job with another team...decent play outside the fumble but still not going to make the team.

I think McGowan earned his roster spot. Looked decent and there was nothing but praise for him during the game. How far down the depth chart is unclear but he made it.

Its not that he put the ball on the ground, its that he put the ball on the ground in a situation where even a 10 yard loss would have still won them the game.

Ironic, isn't it? He ran too hard.

Maroney and Morris have legit injury issues. Faulk is not an every down back. Taylor is an oldie, but a goodie. Still, he's only here for a year - likely, anyway.

I think law-Firm has a shot, honestly. His likely competition is Morris, but if he's heading into the season dinged up, who knows?

I guess it would be enlightening to see him against some first stringers.
